This, in my opinion, is what's wrong with kids today. The message is "You gotta win" and you have to do whatever it takes to do it.

Bad parenting! This mom needs some HELP!

She says in the video that her daughter asked her if the essay was true, and she told her it wasn't. ?? Call me confused.

So you tell your daughter to write that her father died in Iraq and she doesn't know if that's true or not? Does that mean she doesn't know her dad but was told to write something that's extremely horrific for a child to hear? Or is that just another lie from Priscilla Ceballos? Hmmm.

By the way, I think she's expecting.

IMO, it didn't need to be spelled out that this was to be truthful. That would have almost been insulting. It is implied and this mom knew she was cheating to win:

Who willingly enters a contest based on fiction if it's not stated write a fictional story??? :doh: This woman wrote the "essay", not her 6-year-old (I have a gifted 6 year old, and even she wouldn't use the word pendant or be able to spell every word correctly), and purposely lied to win the tickets at all cost. That's all she cared about, a free trip and free concert.

I saw what looked like a photo of the actual essay. If it was real -- and I don't know for certain it was -- it was also written in the best cursive penmanship I have ever seen from a 6, 7, or 8 year old and I have typed in my fair share of Santa letters in the years I worked in newspapers.

And as JBean said, she knew very well that the essay was expected to be a truthful one, she knew very well she was cheating to win.

I'm just glad that she didn't get the tickets in the end.

Cursive writing isn't even taught to 6-year-olds! My daughter's teacher instructed her to print when my daughter tried to handwrite. She said they will start to teach it at the end of second grade.

At the very earliest, cursive comes in second grade. Third and fourth grade are far more common.Six year olds just do not have the fine motor skills required for cursive, as they are mostly still mastering handwriting in general.

i'm 100% for licensing anyone for parenthood and those born outside the licence need to be placed in state homes to be raised as assets to society. productive and contributing citizens so they don't repeat their biological parents' mistakes.

yes, i would be a part of the committee making the rules of licence because, even though i have chosen not to be a parent, i know how children should be raised.

I agree with your sentiment here. It's quite sad!

I was hoping that this was some sort of mistake (other than a lie). Teaching children to jump through every loophole they can find (or leading them through the loopholes by example) is wrong.
