This was an ESSAY contest, not a fiction contest. Essays are assumed to be non-fiction.
Amraann I feel sorry for the little girl too. However, she doesn't deserve to win. What she said she was going to do to "make someone's holiday special" was a lie. Therefore, she doesn't deserve to win. Read what the essay is supposed to be about.
"We want to hear how you're going to ROCK someone else's holiday."
If it is a deed you are doing to make someone have a better "holiday" then that implies that you are GOING TO DO IT. She couldn't do it because the whole story is a farce. No, she clearly doesn't deserve to win. I am glad that they are going to give it to some other "deserving" child. I pray this child doesn't turn out like her lying, cheating, mother.

Some things we teach our children are just common sense Amraan.
Read the first sentence. The idea was to reward a child for doing something for someone else.
If it had to be spelled out that it had to be truthful, it would be an embarrassment,IMO.

A dishonest, amoral woman who is teaching her currently innocent daughter all of her ugliness was booted, and unfortunately her daughter is paying for the lousy mother's wrongdoings. Had the fraudulent mother not done what she did, her daughter would not be now paying the price. It is solely the mother's fault that this happened and that the daughter may now feel sad.
Shame on her if her daughter sheds a tear over this. But, it would not be right to allow the daughter (and even more so the sleazy mother) to go at this point, IMO. The prize should and will be awarded to the rightful winner--who would not have had this chance if the fraud mom were not found out. Now that would have been wrong.

Jelly, I couldn't agree with you more. And, if the mother had nothing to hide why on earth would she not use her daughter's real name? And, by stating that they would do anything to win doesn't make her look so good, either.

Also, notice the mother said "We wrote whatever we could to win." I don't think that little girl wrote the essay in the first place.

I agree the rules should be simple and available easily (on the net), not by snail from some cubicle in Chicago. Also, I think the mother is a crappy role model and preventing her from twisting and violating the spirit of the contest and the season is what the company needed to do.

:furious: Still makes me mad.:furious: I feel she should have understood the essay needed to be true. What you are going to do to make someones holiday special. Not pretend you father is dead to get a prize. I hate how people think they can pull on the heart strings by saying their loved one died in Iraq/Afghanistan, and get something. People like that just make it harder for the people/families who were really killed/injured over there. I am sticking with my previous post. :furious:

She is one of the most hated women in America right now. I don't blame her. I bet she and her family is in hiding right now too. This touched a nerve with most people who have heard the story.
You dont ever say "Daddy was killed in Iraq" just to win something. Lots of Daddies died in this war, Mommies too. Can you imagine being a little kid whose parent did die in the war and is hearing this??
She is a cruel heartless woman. Her daughter (and son) is being raised with a mother who feels winning is worth lying and in my op. CHEATING.
Her husband has a myspace also and boy is he still alive and obviously shares the same values his wife does. If you seen his pictures on myspace, you will understand.
She will sue the company. No doubt. But I cannot imagine any jury giving this

I saw her MySpace yesterday before it was pulled. She was married, has three kids: the 6-year old girl, a boy who looked to be about 4 and a baby girl. Mom was a fan of 'ChicanoRap or LatinaRap (I don't remember the term she used, sorry.)' and said about her favorite rapper that he was the "only that could come between me and my husband."
