I do these all the time online and I usually don't randomly search.

I compare two parts of the picture, I look from one to the other until I'm certain there is no difference, then I look at the next part. I do it kind of in a grid, starting from right to left

A magnifying glass helped it to stand out, but after I knew I'd found, it, I could see it with plain sight.

I’m dying here. I looked at this for 15 minutes and couldn’t find any difference at all!

I see two lighter coloured books together in the middle of the books on the left side picture.

My guess is that the picture orinally was meant to have more than one difference.
I've never seen a spot the difference picture before that only had one difference.

There are probably more to be found in the picture.
