Hey Guardians.
Friendly reminder: our monthly Zoom meeting is happening this Saturday, December 6th, from 12 Noon to 7 PM Eastern.
Now, before you panic: NO, you do not have to sit there for the entire 8 hours like you're competing in some weird True Crime Endurance Olympics. Pop in, pop out, show up in pajamas, disappear mysteriously—whatever works.
👉 CLICK HERE to grab your spot on the Zoom call.
Not a Guardian yet? For just $3 a month—less than the cost of a questionable gas station coffee—you get fun perks like joining our Zoom shenanigans and helping keep Websleuths running smoothly and gloriously ad-free.
👉 CLICK HERE to become a Guardian. It’s so easy, even I could do it… and I once lost a Zoom link while already in the Zoom.
See you Saturday (for five minutes or five hours—whatever works)!
I took a screenshot from our last Zoom, heh.

It does seem such a shame to lose all the great posts ,especially the photos people have posted in the now closed thread . Could the old thread be merged with this one ?
Hey Skigh.
CLICK HERE for the link to the practice Daily thread. It was fun. I am hoping every day is as fun or more on the Daily.
If you see a post you want me to bring over post which ones on this thread and I'll be glad to bring them over here.

Thanks.
Tricia

Doona is Australian for a quilt/duvet/comforter on your bed. A bit too close for comfort!

Correct and I've looked into why, in the 70s Australians started calling them Doonas.

There is dispute over whether the word came from the Swedish word dyne, meaning duck feathers.

But there was an Aussie Victorian company, Kimptons that came out in the 70s with a very popular stuffed quilt product they called the Doona.
It is widely believed this was the origin of the word becoming generic here.

Before that they were called continental quilts or by older generations as eiderdowns.

"Q: So when did “doonas” come along?

A: The name was in the right time and place during the early 1970s, as Aussies – like much of the world – were busy upsizing their beds to queens and kings (check our previous chat about bed sizes and why royal names are used). To match these new beds, they needed new bedding, and an extremely popular brand was made by a Victorian company called Kimptons – simply called the “Doona”"

Two down, a few to go on my Christmas online shopping plan.

I'm a bit annoyed at finding out if it was delivered to my town it would be almost $32 postage.

To my daughters it went down to $16.

I'm pretty sure the last time I sent her something from the same place months ago it was free delivery.
I'm thinking it's because of Christmas there is a delivery charge now

Having thought about it the postage does make sense.
I'm in a smallish country town while my daughter is in the outer suburb of a capital city.

I'm ok with it now.
And I may be wrong about the free delivery before and I do recall the Post Office making some changes recently

Lots of things have increased in price over the last couple of years

Hope everyone has a wonderful day today.
This summer, someone abandoned a mama cat and her four tiny kittens at the end of my driveway. Now only three kittens remain, and I have no idea what happened to their mother or the missing sibling.

Every night, the three survivors come to my porch. I can’t let them starve or freeze, but I also can’t just let them run wild. The little calico is going to end up pregnant any moment, and the cycle will keep repeating.

On Sunday, I put out an outdoor pet heating pad, and all three curled up together on it. They were so sweet it broke my heart. Here is a picture of them on Sunday night. facebook_1764660130895_7401521045655218658.webp

Yesterday, I set up a cat house with a heater too. They couldn’t quite figure it out, so I put the heating pad inside the box the house came in—and that’s where they’re sleeping now.

I’ve reached out to Texas Paw Prints and am waiting for a response. If anyone knows of an organization in or near the Dallas area that can help, please let me know. I can’t bear the thought of taking them to a kill shelter.

I’m even considering trying to trap them and get them all fixed myself—pretty sure the calico is a girl, but I’m not sure about the two black kittens.

I may have posted about them before, but I’m honestly really worried. I can’t keep doing this alone. They’re either going to get pregnant or end up impregnating other cats, and I can't let that happen.
WHY DO PEOPLE DO THIS?

All my online shopping done yay!

The only person left is my son who over the past couple of years has chosen to go no contact.

We have no address for him, he moved and wouldn't give his address, to anyone.
I ended up being the only family person he would talk to but in fhe end I couldn't get his new address out of him.
And after that he doesn't answer the phone or emails.

He's in another state.

And no my finances don't run to getting private detectives.

I don't let it get to me they way I used to.
But I do wonder if he's ok, or if I might get that knock on the door one day.

I try not to think about it.

It's just the season. I promise I won't say anymore downer things.

The calico will definitely be female unless she's a Kleinfelter male (XXY). It's genetics.

We ended up with our current three due to a very similar situation. Mama cat and two boy kittens. We've had them the better part of a decade, now.

I enjoyed the nostalgia and remembering childhood games and toys and the pictures people posted of themselves as children.

I absolutely despair at the way people abandon cats and kittens. Some of the stories I have heard and known about locally are simply heartbreaking.
Thank you for taking care of these little ones Tricia, they are lucky to have found you. 🐾🐾

Something I meant to put on the last thread re words and phrases.

For awhile there, way back I used to say:

"I'm going to put my peggy jim jams on and go to sleepy bobo's"

I have searched for it and it seems it was piggy not peggy. It did sound like peggy to me.
