Doona is Australian for a quilt/duvet/comforter on your bed. A bit too close for comfort!

Correct and I've looked into why, in the 70s Australians started calling them Doonas.

There is dispute over whether the word came from the Swedish word dyne, meaning duck feathers.

But there was an Aussie Victorian company, Kimptons that came out in the 70s with a very popular stuffed quilt product they called the Doona.
It is widely believed this was the origin of the word becoming generic here.


Before that they were called continental quilts or by older generations as eiderdowns.

Two down, a few to go on my Christmas online shopping plan.

I'm a bit annoyed at finding out if it was delivered to my town it would be almost $32 postage.

To my daughters it went down to $16.

I'm pretty sure the last time I sent her something from the same place months ago it was free delivery.
I'm thinking it's because of Christmas there is a delivery charge now

Having thought about it the postage does make sense.
I'm in a smallish country town while my daughter is in the outer suburb of a capital city.

I'm ok with it now.
And I may be wrong about the free delivery before and I do recall the Post Office making some changes recently

Welcome to December 2nd, 2025​

Hope everyone has a wonderful day today.
This summer, someone abandoned a mama cat and her four tiny kittens at the end of my driveway. Now only three kittens remain, and I have no idea what happened to their mother or the missing sibling.


Every night, the three survivors come to my porch. I can’t let them starve or freeze, but I also can’t just let them run wild. The little calico is going to end up pregnant any moment, and the cycle will keep repeating.

On Sunday, I put out an outdoor pet heating pad, and all three curled up together on it. They were so sweet it broke my heart. Here is a picture of them on Sunday night.

Yesterday, I set up a cat house with a heater too. They couldn’t quite figure it out, so I put the heating pad inside the box the house came in—and that’s where they’re sleeping now.

I’ve reached out to Texas Paw Prints and am waiting for a response. If anyone knows of an organization in or near the Dallas area that can help, please let me know. I can’t bear the thought of taking them to a kill shelter.

I’m even considering trying to trap them and get them all fixed myself—pretty sure the calico is a girl, but I’m not sure about the two black kittens.

I may have posted about them before, but I’m honestly really worried. I can’t keep doing this alone. They’re either going to get pregnant or end up impregnating other cats, and I can't let that happen.

All my online shopping done yay!

The only person left is my son who over the past couple of years has chosen to go no contact.

We have no address for him, he moved and wouldn't give his address, to anyone.
I ended up being the only family person he would talk to but in fhe end I couldn't get his new address out of him.
And after that he doesn't answer the phone or emails.

He's in another state.

And no my finances don't run to getting private detectives.

I don't let it get to me they way I used to.
But I do wonder if he's ok, or if I might get that knock on the door one day.

I try not to think about it.

It's just the season. I promise I won't say anymore downer things.

The calico will definitely be female unless she's a Kleinfelter male (XXY). It's genetics.

We ended up with our current three due to a very similar situation. Mama cat and two boy kittens. We've had them the better part of a decade, now.

I absolutely despair at the way people abandon cats and kittens. Some of the stories I have heard and known about locally are simply heartbreaking.

I have searched for it and it seems it was piggy not peggy. It did sound like peggy to me.

each city and town prepares a beautiful Christmas Tree in the centre.

Last year,
according to the ranking of the Time Out website,
the most beautiful Christmas tree in the world,
and therefore in Poland,
was the tree on the Main Square in Kraków (Cracow).

The winner in this plebiscite in 2024
was a natural (Spruce) Christmas tree
adorned with thousands of lights and decorations.

(At the top there is always the Bethlehem Star
which heralded the birth of Jesus Christ
and was supposed to show the Three Kings/The Magi the way to Bethlehem to pay homage to newborn Jesus.)

@Tricia thank you for what you are doing for these babies. Can you look for a TNR group in your area ?That’s Trap, Neuter , Release. They should help catch the babies, help with low cost or free spay/neuter then they’d be released back to you.

This is a subject near and dear to my heart. I love both cats and dogs. But there is a problem with strays in my town. My friend and I have been able to get a lot of cats to local rescues where they’re vetted and fixed, then adopted to good homes. But there are so many more. My husband used to tell me that I can’t save them all, and I always replied that I can try. Right now I have ten indoor cats. They’re all happy and healthy and fixed. Yes, I’m a crazy cat lady!

My friend’s outdoor cat, Copper, is over here a lot, so I got him an insulated house with a heating pad (like you did, Tricia). He’s never been indoors and we can’t coax him in. He’s 12 now, but healthy and fixed and he loves his house. Here’s a picture of the little man.

Absolutely beautiful! I always wanted to go to Poland but never got there. My great-grandparents were from Poznan.
