Not a Christmas, but a birthday. I think I'm five. I still have the music box, that's what the little house is, though it's much shabbier now.

I actually love this picture. I love my hair, I love the overalls. Mum cut my hair and made the overalls.

Santa's Day!!!

This is a beloved 🤩 Day for children in Poland.

On St. Nicholas's Name Day (Sanctus/Święty Mikołaj)
children receive small gifts 🎁
and exchange best wishes.

The tradition for this Holiday in Poland
is the Day of
St. Nicholas, Bishop of Myra,
(famous for helping the poor and needy)

and is celebrated on 6th December
(in Catholicism).

The cult of St. Nicholas in Catholic Church has existed since the 9th century.

We were worried when this thread disappeared, so happy to see it back! It is a feel good kind of thing for here at WS. A nice diversion from the stuff we usually read and post about.

No photo but I was 10 to my younger brother's 6 and our MOM dared us to climb the water tower. We shimmied up the first ladder with ease, slipped through the iron hatch to ladder 2 and were making impressive progress towards the top when there boomed from below us, a POLICE OFFICER saying, "you need to come down from there". Our mom, who started this very bad idea, where was she? She DITCHED us! Left us alone to deal with Officer Notamused.

Do you have any idea how loooooooooong the climb down a water tower is when there's a POLICE MAN standing at the bottom?

And you know you can't even say your mom said you could because NO ONE is going to believe THAT.

I was sure we were going to jail.

Thanks a lot, Mom.

I lived directly down the street from my high school. My grandparents were visiting for the holiday and together with my parents they had gone for a neighborhood walk.

Meanwhile I had been farting around at the high school track when a weird man was approaching me and a friend. We booted it back to my house and called the cops. He came and scooped us up in the squad car to take us down the street to identify said perp.

As we are driving to the high school my mom, dad and grandparents are rounding the corner to our street. I'm trying to roll down the window and they are staring back at me with absolute horror. Ha. Windows don't roll down, obviously and they are running after the squad car.

I love that memory. You reminded me of it.

All my online shopping done yay!

The only person left is my son who over the past couple of years has chosen to go no contact.

We have no address for him, he moved and wouldn't give his address, to anyone.
I ended up being the only family person he would talk to but in fhe end I couldn't get his new address out of him.
And after that he doesn't answer the phone or emails.

He's in another state.

And no my finances don't run to getting private detectives.

I don't let it get to me they way I used to.
But I do wonder if he's ok, or if I might get that knock on the door one day.

I try not to think about it.

It's just the season. I promise I won't say anymore downer things.
Just a word of encouragement...we went through similar with one of our children. They estranged themself from us for four years. They didn't change their email or phone, just wouldn't respond. We knew they moved but didn't know where. We kept reaching out to them , not frequently but often enough. We told them that we loved them no matter what, and that when they were ready, we would be there. I had counseling and that helped a lot. Finally, one day we got an email from them. They were ready to see us and apologized and explained what they had been going through. I was so anxious when we went to see them.I tried to focus on staying in the moment, not asking anything about the past. They had been struggling with substance abuse and were now sober. My counselor explained that often people are ashamed of this, too ashamed to talk to their parents.
We now have a fairly good relationship, we see them and their family, and they know we love them and we know they love us. It isn't perfect but it's better than the way it was.
Lead with love. Remember you love them. Don't let pride get in the way of love.

Thanks @ReadySet!

Seems I've been doing similar to you. Exactly like you said, I didn't bombard him, but enough to let him know he was loved.

I also didn't say things like why haven't you called or tried to guilt trip him in any way.

I'm so happy it worked out for you and I really appreciate your kind words to me :)

Laptop problems.
Freezing cursor.
My muscles are actual hurting from trying to get my computer to respond.

I had thought of getting a new one, long before this one started having problems a few days ago.
I always like to have a spare laptop just in case.

The one I wanted to buy has suddenly gone instore only so I might have to go and have a look inside an actual store lol.

I think it's being discontinued and all the new ones are hundreds of dollars more.

All the new ones seem to have this Co pilot which I'm wary of.
I want to be the ONLY pilot using my laptop.

Next to Love, Hope is essential.

It's a good thing I'm a glass half full kind of person

My dearly missed SO used to call me Pollyanna because I was always finding something good out of every situation.

It went like this.
He would say isn't it awful about whatever and my mind and voice would say.

The bad thing is, but the good thing is....

:)

Yes I'm wary of it.

I think it's on this laptop too because I see the icon but it's not activated and iit seems to me maybe on the new ones you don't have a choice. I might be wrong.

Mine is not new.
One day recently I noticed it there. All the time.
I will talk to tech dept. to see if it can go on permanent journey far away.

Thank you! I know the theme was embarrassing pictures, but to be honest, there was plenty of my childhood that was awful, my memories are not always accessible, and my reclaiming of my self from that time has been a process. I have a few pictures I love because I can see genuine moments of joy in myself, and even if I don't remember the moment, the picture is proof it happened and that that me that was then was happy at that moment.

Years ago on my first online grocery shop I bought what I thought were four kilos of apples in 1kg packets.
Imagine my surprise to find I had received four apples in total.

I had not realised they were selling by each apple.
The pickers must have laughed themselves silly

Oh and each of the four apples came wrapped up separately in their own little bag.
