Give Us This Day Our Daily Thread December 1st through December 31st 2025

Another cold, wet, gray, rainy day here. I am officially over this weather! DD is picking us up soon. We are going to a drive through nativity scene. Thankfully the rain has stopped. Many groups have postponed their Christmas events until next weekend due to this miserable weather.

It sounds like typical Irish weather, no?
😁 🤔

I think you can disable it; I’ll look.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Gator. I doubt that copilot is causing any problems for me as I've never used it.

I was just wondering about the newer range of laptops that do strongly feature it as most seem to now.
And was wondering what others thought of it.

My laptop is probably nearing the end of it's life as I bought it in 2018

And my one I was going to post on the last thread.
My parents didn't say it, but I have heard it was a thing.

"you'll be laughing out of the other side of your face" Not sure if there were more words to it.
That's one I've heard -- from the 'rents. That was my cue to tone it down or better, to turn it off...

I hope all those in the US had a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving holiday.

For me, back to the work grind today after lots of relaxation, good food, and some Christmas decorating - grateful for the time and feel much more relaxed. Still have to put up my tree, but have lots of the other decorations out and placed.

I'm saying this "out loud" because I'm going to ask you all to hold me to it - I WILL NOT WAIT UNTIL DEC 23rd TO DO ALL MY CHRISTMAS SHOPPING THIS YEAR!

Haha...Happy Monday all!
Well, if you do wait 'til then, we'll be sure to bring it up from time to time.
Er, um, I must confess that I haven't bought one present yet... but I've got a list -- planning to hit it tomorrow. Let's get out there, @Kittybunny!

And isn't Hanukkah also coming up soon!?

And a Big Thanks, Tricia, for starting this thread!

Every city, every town organizes a Christmas Market.

Also,
each city and town prepares a beautiful Christmas Tree 🎄 in the centre.

Last year,
according to the ranking of the Time Out website,
the most beautiful Christmas tree in the world,
and therefore in Poland,
was the tree on the Main Square in Kraków (Cracow).

The winner in this plebiscite in 2024
was a natural (Spruce) Christmas tree
adorned with thousands of lights and decorations.

(At the top there is always the Bethlehem Star⭐
which heralded the birth of Jesus Christ
and was supposed to show the Three Kings/The Magi the way to Bethlehem to pay homage to newborn Jesus.)

December 4

Barbara celebrates her Name Day :)

As Saint Barbara is the Patron of the miners
4th December is their Day called "Barbórka" in Poland.

(The Patron Saint of the miners' festival is Barbara of Nicomedia,
a martyr who lived in the 3rd century AD and was recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church.)

Barbórka (from the name of Barbara)
is celebrated with great enthusiasm by all Polish miners
and people associated with the extraction of fossil fuels.

The celebration of this Day always begins with a solemn morning Mass, held in a church.

The miners' bands march through the districts of the cities and towns inhabited by miners.

Meetings, ceremonies, concerts, and so-called beer halls
are also frequently organized :)

Best wishes to all Miners in Poland
and all over the World 🌎

And as is customary Polish Miners' Greeting
God Bless!

:)
Thanks, @Dotta -- what beauty -- I learned a bit more about beautiful Poland. What a country it must be.
Certainly the Poles are very proud of the way they have lived their lives for many generations.
Tuff stuff and hard times for so many -- those years ago. But they endured and held their heads high then and now.

Trigger warning. Horror stories from Pearl Harbor

December 7, 1941 — A Day the World Changed

On this day in 1941, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor shattered a quiet Sunday morning in Hawaii and changed the course of history forever. In less than two hours, over 2,400 Americans were killed, nearly 1,200 were wounded, and the U.S. was forced into World War II.

The horror was unimaginable.

Young sailors were trapped inside sinking ships, pounding on steel walls as water rushed in. Some survived only because shipmates used torches to cut through burning metal to pull them out. Others were burned alive by exploding fuel, or drowned in oil-covered water while trying to escape. Nurses worked for days without rest, treating the wounded as the floors filled with blood. Many who survived carried those memories for the rest of their lives.

So few eyewitnesses remain now. That is exactly why we must never forget what they endured.

And Now… A Little Light After the Darkness

After reading about a day filled with such tragedy, it helps to remember that human joy still exists on this date too:

  • On December 7, 1949, the first-ever computer error (a real “computer bug”) was discovered, when an actual moth was found inside a machine at Harvard — proving that even technology has bad days.
Ok it's really me again. Is your retirement plan a weekly Powerball ticket? That's my plan. I am going to win any day now..I can feel it. Some people call me delusional. I say I am a sunny ball of optimism. Back later.
Tricia
Thanks, @Tricia. I've been reading and seeing films about Pearl Harbor for the last several days, as well. SMH. What courage to somehow get through it (those who did, and RIP to those who did not).

Welcome to Monday, December 8th, 2025
Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try.
Can you believe it has been 45 years since John Lennon was murdered? So hard to Imagine. Pun intended.
Here is a weird story kind of connected to John Lennon.
How about this poor guy who had the role of a lifetime but was fired because of his name.
CLICK HERE and check it out.
I'm tied up with a work project today, but I hope you all will pop in and say hi, and maybe
do a little dance,

make a little love,
get down tonight

get down tonight
Yes, it is sacrilege to mention Imagine by John Lennon and then quote K.C. and the Sunshine Band.
I feel shame.
