Another day, another song 😃

A famous Christmas🎄 Carol of Slavic origin :)

Ukrainian to be precise.

To add to my post above...

Shchedryk (Ukrainian: Щедрик)

is a famous Ukrainian New Year's song (shchedrivka)
created by Mykola Leontovych,
based on a folk melody
about a swallow bringing wealth in New Year
which in the English version by Peter J. Wilhousky
became the worldwide Christmas carol
"Carol of the Bells".

This song
is an example of the Ukrainian tradition
of singing good luck wishes,
which,
thanks to its brilliant arrangement,
turned into an international hit.

Our World 🌎 is a Global Village :)

GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY THREAD
SUNDAY DECEMBER 21ST 2025

✨ 1937 – The world met Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney’s first full-length animated feature.

People thought audiences would never sit through a cartoon that long.

Narrator voice: They absolutely did. 🍎

🏀 1891 – The first basketball game was played after James Naismith nailed peach baskets to a gym wall.
No slam dunks. No three-pointers. Just vibes… and probably a lot of arguing about rules.

🚀 1968Apollo 8 launched, becoming the first mission to carry humans to the Moon.
A few days later, they sent back the famous Earthrise photo

❄️ And of course… it’s the Winter Solstice — the shortest day of the year.
From here on out, the days get longer, the sun sticks around more, and hope quietly creeps back in. 🌞

And here in Australia it's our Summer Solstice today, Sunday 21st December.

Australia’s longest day of the year is happening this weekend

The summer solstice arrives in the Southern Hemisphere on Sunday, December 21

Winter Solstice in Ireland today with the usual beautiful annual light display at Newgrange. Happy shortest day to all in the northern hemisphere! It gets brighter from here

Our summer weather is bringing out the crickets.
I thought oh no last night, one was chirping so loudly I thought it was in the house.

I had one in my bedroom a couple of years ago and I could not find it.
I had no sleep for a couple of days.

Anyway lasts nights one I figured was in the front garden.
I hope it hurries up and finds a mate :)

And, we, the winter solstice.

Have always wondered how astrology addressed the solstice differences by hemisphere.
Astrology started BC ...so probably only addressed the traditional northern hemisphere winter solstice in Dec. oh well... too complicated.

ENJOY your summer solstice. Wish I was there!

I love 😘 people with a sense of humour!!

Tell you what...
You can start with moonwalking
to the coffee pot 😆

Add new routine each day
And .... Voilà!!!

Each change starts with a tiny step 💪

A short little video about the end of postal letter delivery in Denmark after 400 years of service.
I can see that happening in my country too before too long.

Final deliveries: Denmark ending postal service after 400 years

I am sooooo not a morning person! However, if you’d caught me around 2:00 this morning…..

I understand
But....
It means you deprive yourself of exposition to sunlight☀️ and vitamin D.
Each moment of sunlight in winter time is considered golden.

Well, at least where I live.

I'm a night owl, plus I have insomnia.

I don't like to miss out on learning something new, so if I could be awake 24 hours a day and could function ok I would be happy to live like that.

I sometimes (quite often) manage to fall asleep around 5am and sleep til 10am.
That would be an ok sleep for me.

But often I only get maybe three or four hours which leaves me staggering around like a zombie all day.

One thing I never do that I used to do is lie awake struggling to sleep.
I get up and do what I feel like, have a cup of tea, read, get on WS, whatever.

So the not being able to sleep doesn't frustrate me anymore

I avoid the sun as much as I can.

Surprisingly my vitamin D levels are very good.

I do the same since I retired @TootsieFootsie . I usually go to bed at 12-1 am and get up around 6:30 am. It takes an hour and a good cup of strong coffee to get me going.

Time for decorating the 🎄 😀

they're hanging right upon its branches
in cherished ornaments.”

One of the many great things about retirement is not having to wake to an alarm clock.

Well
Not surprising...
You live in Australia :)

Re sleeping patterns

Pieces of advice I can give are:

Our bodies love regularity and routine.
Always go to sleep at the same time
and get up at the same time.

Soon the organism will get accustomed to the rhythm
and production of melatonin will stabilize.

Also,
never stay in bed while not sleeping.
And...
NO napping during the day!

JMO :)
