It pains me that the young among us have never had to save anything on a floppy disk.
LOL EXACTLY MEGNUT. They don't know the fun of having to store them, use them, and then trying to decide whether you should throw them away especially if you didn't label them properly. OR was that just me. LOL. I am LOVIN' reading about your old computers.
By the way

Ice block is what Australians call a popsicle.
Ohhhhh... Now it makes sense. My first thought was of cow licks (salt blocks) so it made me wonder why someone would want to lick a block of ice (water). Cows do it for a reason so was trying to determine if they were thirsty or something, then not understanding why they just didn't get their own glasses of water. :D Thanks for the Aussie education!

Thanks @iamshadow21 !

I was thinking that maybe something got lost in the translation.

And I always think that popsicles are like our lollipops

I don't always think that they're like our ice blocks, or other names they're known by, ice confection, water ice etc

Icy Poles was another name that became generic in Australia in the past.
Popsicles and lollipops are 2 different things but darn close! Popsicles are frozen flavored water (the sicle part is from icesicle.) Cherry, root beer, etc. on a stick. Lollipops are hard candy on a stick. They aren't frozen. :)

Aqua Dots!!!

Arrange small beads, spritz 'em with water, and your design will fuse together — sounds fun, right? The problem with this 2007 toy was that the coating released the compound GHB, a.k.a. the date rape drug, when ingested. After three children went into comas after swallowing the toxic pieces, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled some 4.2 million kits.

4 January

is World Braille Day

It is a worldwide celebration
that takes place every year on 4 January.

It recognises the incredible legacy of braille,
the tactile code used by many blind and partially sighted people,
which was developed 200 years ago.

"Today we celebrate
the work of Louis Braille,
who at the age of 15
invented a remarkable reading and writing system
that changed the lives of blind and partially sighted people.

Braille helped them connect with the sighted world
and empowered them to more fully participate in it.

Increased literacy led to better education,
the ability to work and live independently,
and achieve one’s full potential."
👏

What’s even more impressive is that Louis was either blind or partially sighted himself.

God: "You're not going to ask me for sweets AGAIN, are you?"

I didn't write the book!

But you're absolutely right -- if I did write a book, it wouldn't be that one. It might be one about coming of age in the era of Pixy Stix and Bubblicious.

Penny candy

I was 6 years old. Old enough that I should have known better but thoughtful enough that I reasoned otherwise. Convinced my very best friend, an impressionable 5 year old, that since we'd already spent our dime on penny candy, it would be okay to take an extra piece of taffy. Reasoning being: if we had the money, we'd pay. Intending to pay felt sufficient to me.

Busted at check out.

Here's where the story goes "full 1975" --

Boy at the register was a friend of my brother's. He told his brother who told their mother who called my mother.

Before I even made it home.

Narcs.

I get home and my mom asks me how it went at the store, whether anything interesting happened.

Me: nope, nope, nothing.

My mom: that's interesting. Because I got a call...

...

It was a short-lived life of crime. But it helped shaped my honesty now. My mom showed me how many people get shorted when one person steals, how ever little the stolen thing might be.

I wonder whether that truth gets lost when it's big box stores and fewer people, knowing the people who work at them.

I LOVE that I was blessed to grow up in the era of neighborhoods and streetlights, sidewalks and front porches, Saturday baths and TV dinners when Dad was out of town.

Well, unless I got the one with carrots and peas.

Why did I never get the one with the brownie?

You can have ALLLLL my carrots. I hate them cooked. Only raw, please!
My parents lied to me, but it’s a good thing that I’ve always liked carrots. They told me that carrots are good for your eyesight. I’ve been wearing glasses and contacts since I was eight years old. 🤷‍♀️

Your parents were RIGHT!!! 💯

Carrots are crucial for eye health
because they provide beta-carotene,
which the body converts into vitamin A necessary for proper vision
(especially at night)
and protection of the retina,
preventing night blindness and macular degeneration.

👍
