ROYAL OAK, Mich. - Fans may pay tribute to late Eagles guitarist, Glenn Frey, through his music, but you could soon find yourself taking a turn onto Glenn Frey Drive.

“The idea came from the song ‘Take It Easy’, you know the lyrics, ‘standing on the corner of Winslow, Arizona’, said Jim O’Brien, 94.7 WCSX personality.

With Frey being a homegrown musician, O’Brien thought naming a street after him was the perfect way to honor the rock star after he died earlier this year...

Glenn co-wrote and sang on most of the Eagles hits, including "Take It Easy," "Tequila Sunrise," "Lyin' Eyes," and "Heartache Tonight," to name a few. He also co-wrote "Hotel California" and "Desperado" with Don Henley and took home 6 Grammys with the band.

Don Henley said, "He was like a brother to me; we were family, and like most families, there was some dysfunction. But the bond we forged 45 years ago was never broken. He added ... "We built something that has lasted longer than anyone could have dreamed. But Glenn was the one who started it all."
Glenn was 67. RIP.

Huge Eagles fan myself...saw them the first time in 1975 or thereabouts .
I do need to make one correction though. Glen and Don did not write Hotel California ....that was written by Don " Fingers " Feldon , who was later ousted from the band.

Cubbeegirl, love your avatar and your signature. Recognize them two (Stevie and Lindsey) anywhere.

Don Felder wrote the music! Glenn Frey and Don Henley co-wrote the lyrics. :)

Glenn Frey Drive approved in Royal Oak

Mark Hicks, The Detroit News 10:42 p.m. EST February 11, 2016

A Royal Oak street now is connected to rock royalty.

School board members voted unanimously Thursday night to approve renaming part of Willis Avenue after Glenn Frey, the city-bred Eagles co-founder who died last month at age 67.

“I think it’s a positive for the city,” said Royal Oak Mayor Jim Ellison, who attended the board meeting. “It ties in to a lot of what Royal Oak is. We try to stay ahead of what’s going on. We have an opportunity to honor one of the city’s most famous citizens, and we just did it.”

Before relocating to California in the 1970s and launching the Eagles with Don Henley, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner, Frey grew up in the Oakland County suburb...

Thanks ! I'm a huge Mac fan ! Stevie is my queen and Lynds,he's a rock God and HOT !
Always makes me sad that they just couldn't keep it together , their chemistry is so powerful ! But their misery gave us good music !
My fondest wish was granted when Chris rejoined the band ....great concert !

Me too, BIG fan. Yes...I saw them in HOTlanta. So glad Chris was back.

Just saw the Eagles on the Grammys, tribute to Glenn Frye. Jackson Browne sang lead. They all looked so sad and kinda in a daze. I just wanted to cry.

Between Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles, my late teens/early 20's was musical heaven. I continue to listen to them both - never get old, IMO.

I was telling hubs the other night, when my time comes, I want to be listening to some awesome music and just fade away.

On the west coast and we just saw the Glenn Frey tribute on the Grammys. "Take it Easy" without its usual joyous feel. Seeing Jackson Browne's eyes shining with unshed tears as he sang lead was so sad. The tears spilled over as the song ended. We never got to see the Eagles in concert, but we've seen JBro (our name for him) many times. Love that guy. What a tough, tough night for all of them. :(

I just watched that performance again. They did appear to be in a bit of a fog. It probably was a bit too soon for them . Henley looked uncharacteristically upset as did Jackson Browne.. Having said that Jackson was the perfect choice !

Raise a glass to Glenn Frey Thursday in Royal Oak

Dawn Needham, The Detroit News 7:16 a.m. EST February 18, 2016

As the Eagles song says, "You can't hide your lyin' eyes," and a Royal Oak brewpub doesn't want to hide them either.

Royal Oak is ready to pay tribute Thursday to Glenn Frey, the city-bred Eagles co-founder who died last month at age 67.

Beginning Thursday, you can drive down the newly renamed Glenn Frey Drive and then taste a beer named in his honor. Roak Brewing Co. 330 E Lincoln Ave., is naming an English golden ale "Lyin' Eyes" in tribute to the rocker. Roak will serve up the beer during an after-party following the unveiling of the new street name.

The ale registers 4.5 ABV and 20 IBUs, so those enjoying it can really take it easy.

"It's easy for anyone to drink, and it pairs well with any food," said Roak manager Kerrie Sursely...
