Not exactly a grocery shopping report, but I thought I'd share this here. DH has been invited to participate in a fundraiser golf scramble on Saturday. The outing is to raise money for the Greater Pinconning Area Emergency Food Pantry. He'll have to get up very early on Saturday morning for the 90 minute drive to the golf course in Pinconning.

I made my 2 week shopping trip to Aldi this morning. All shelves for bacon and chicken breast were empty again. Lunch meat and hamburger were stocked up again.
Also Dollar Tree has their generic lysol spray stocked again. Kills 99.9% germs and flu/virus. $1 a can, limit 4.

OMG. Please remember to wear latex gloves while handling these babies and DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE OR EYES. The juice will cover knives, cutting boards everything that you use.

Not to worry. I don't cook with any spicy peppers. I stick to bell peppers in all varieties and Sheppard peppers that more sweet than spicy. The only recipe that I make with jalapenos is my turkey chili which calls for a 4 oz. can of chopped jalapenos. In a restaurant, if there are jalapenos on anything, I pick them off

One exception to really spicy peppers is the Scotch Bonnet that is in Jamaican Jerk Chicken and other Caribbean dishes I've enjoyed. There is a fabulous restaurant in Grenada that DH have been to a few times when our cruise ship is in port at "the spice island". Many of their dishes are accompanied by a spicy sauce that is made with Scotch Bonnet peppers. Yes, it is very spicy, but there is a soothing warmth and floral quality to the sauce. They sell it in tiny jars, and I've purchased whenever we're there. Just a little goes a long way, so it lasts a while because I don't use it often.

Does anybody do a subscription box for veggies? I just signed up for one that my friend uses. She's super happy with them, but when I tried to sign up in March, I guess that they were overwhelmed with new subscriptions so I couldn't. My first subscription is next Thursday and I'm weirdly excited - all over fruits and veggies.

I love mine. Every week it is something new. And it is a lot of food. I never need to go to the store any more, maybe once a month. It saves me a ton of time and money.

Which one do you use? I forgot to say mine is misfit market.

I send my Aunt in VA a box once a month from Imperfect Foods. There is so much more to choose from than just fruits and veg!

You will love it. There’s just nothing like fresh produce. So many unique veggies to try and online recipes too. I’m picking up mine tomorrow.

My sister used to complain she couldn’t get her 1st child to eat vegs. All she ever did was open a dang can. Needless to say, her husband asked me to teach her to cook. But first, we had to actually go buy cookware. LOL!

That isn't available where I live. I belong to a Community Supported Agricultural cooperative. I get a box of "surprise" fruit and veggies every week, from several various farms. Almost more than we can eat every week. But, it makes us eat more vegetables, and different things that I might not buy. It has been great.

I just read this post, then googled it to learn more. Then I opened my Facebook and guess what the first ad was? You guessed it, Imperfect Produce!

My DD lives on the north shore of Oahu. She said there is a seed shortage or if you can find seeds, they are expensive.
Seems locals are growing their own food.

MOO

I just assumed those monthly box subscriptions were more expensive because of the convenience factor. But if they're cheaper or worth it, I might look into them. Not sure what's available around here though.

Picked up my produce today. Lots of good veggies plus a gallon of milk!

I had to toss the moldy cucumbers and tomatoes from the Farm to Family box. I was able to save the peppers. I was excited to get zucchini. I like that we have yellow apples this week, they’re usually red apples. I have the pears in the window to ripen.

Too many bananas tho. I usually peel them and freeze them individually in plastic wrap, tuck them in a gallon baggie. However, I have plenty already. Hopefully I can find a home for them and the mushrooms.

Quoting myself with an update about the golf tournament. DH and I were both concerned about safety precautions at the event, and DH got all the details from his friend this morning. Masks required in all public spaces. One person per cart. DH's friend took care of his entry fee and that of another guest, but we can make a cash donation to the Food Pantry and/or non-perishable food items. We will do both. Due to the pandemic, USPS did not have their annual spring food collection, so we are happy to have an opportunity to help those in need.

As for grocery shopping, Rao's pasta sauces are on Nino's weekly specials again this week, so I will get a couple more jars. We will definitely get swordfish and butterfly pork chops that are featured this week, as well.

As a cancer patient, I qualify for the free food and produce distributions. It is usually based on income but with the pandemic, they’re not being overly strict. If you’ve lost your job, you likely can participate. Some of the distributions you don’t need to qualify, you just drive thru the line and they load your trunk. It is worth checking into if you’re on a tight budget.

Those are some big beautiful carrots! Seeing all the colorful veggies and fruit together is like looking at a work of art.:)

The CSA I belong to is about $25 a week. Which sounds high, but I get several types of veggies, fruit, and unusual gourmet type items, oyster mushrooms, huckleberries. The fact that I don't have to go to the store is the best part. All contactless.

I loved the baby bok choi, and rainbow carrots. Every week I get different stuff, along with lettuce and tomatoes.

Misfit is $27.50 including shipping and says it's enough for 2 people for a week. We eat 3 meals/day here except once/week we have a takeout dinner. We'll see. My friend gets the up-to-5-people box and it's $40.50. She was getting it weekly but it was too much - she has 4 in her home but her dad is picky and doesn't like those "weirdo veggies." (Like baby bok choi, which is both one of my favorites and one of the colors I'm getting ready to paint my house - another is celery lol) I'm looking forward to "weirdo veggies." It's lots better than being bored.

I’m not sure how it’s going to work with our dietary restrictions. Maybe I can opt out for certain veggies?
