I make mashed turnips the same way. Simple and yummy!!That is a nice haul, PNI'm sure you'll have a busy weekend doing food prep. My dad always had turnips in our garden. Mom peeled them, cut up like potatoes, and cooked turnips until tender. Mashed with butter, salt, and pepper. I haven't cooked turnips in a very long time but will remember to do so in the fall.
Bless you and your full heart and tummy! Thank you for sharing the joy of your bounty with us!The monthly food distribution along the bay front this morning included the mobile Covid truck. They were set up in the shade with fans to keep them cool. However, in the 30 minutes I was there, I didn't see one person in line to get a vaccine. They are there for 2 hours so maybe after I left they had some patients. If you need food or a vaccine, they are finished for today but keep a watch for next month.
Food distribution set for Saturday at the Van Wezel
Today they gave me a box of produce with turnips. I am not a huge fan but I've had turnip greens before. No greens, just turnips. An elderly aunt in GA used to make them for us at family gatherings. There are big avocados, 3 ears of corn, 2 bags of potatoes, onions, asparagus, apples, bananas and a different type cabbage. I'll be perusing recipes while I'm resting today.
There are 2 loaves of bread, English muffins and a pound cake too. I will have to freeze some of both. A box of dry goods with pasta, canned veggies, tomato sauce, etc. All helpful ingredients for sure. The big bag of meat had 2 pkgs of ground beef, a huge 7 lb hen that I'm defrosting. I will put it on my rotisserie. Then de-bone it for meals. Yum! A 5lb box of Stouffer's frozen macaroni and cheese. I'll have to bake it and then divide it up into freezer containers. Two prepared meals, one is big cheese stuffed meatballs which will be good for the pasta. The other is chicken stuffed peppers but I am not a fan of peppers. My daughter's boyfriend might like them. They also gave me a huge long thing of white American cheese slices, a gallon of milk and a gallon of orange juice. How did they know I am broke this week? This fresh food is such a blessing. Bless those that share!
The paper products is surprising. More people at home seems like you’d use real dishes, but it must be all the takeout. I’m a paper towel user so I guess I better get some more while they’re on sale at Publix.
I was at Wal-Mart today, literally, a full aisle of disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer for...wait for it....50
Yes. Fifty cents!
I have stocked up, not overboard, but we have plenty now for the car, every room of the house.
Mr. BDE had a unique online grocery shopping experience that I'd like to share with you. He kept his venture secret until yesterday when the mysterious package was out for delivery on FedEx. DH was going for his swim and said that there might be a delivery that I would have to sign for and that I might be asked for ID. I had some suspicions about what was in the package that was delivered while DH was outI saw FedEx truck in front of our house and greeted young driver at the front door. He said that he'd sign for me, and I asked if he needed to see ID. He laughed because he knew that the package contained alcohol and that it was obvious I was old enough to accept the box with two bottles of vintage wine that Mr. BDE had purchased through online auction. DH had apparently been working on the purchase of 1971 wine for our 50th anniversary on Friday for several weeks, and I didn't know anything about it until yesterday. When he called to make dinner reservations, he was told that cork/decanter charge would be $45 which is nonsense! We will enjoy the two 1971 bottles of Fossi Riserva Chianti Classico home. No idea how they'll taste, but the bottles are beautiful.
Thanks for sharing this. DH and I don't go to Costco as frequently as some folks we know. Once a month is enough to keep our favorite products in stock.
What a lovely, kind gift!!! Congrats on the 50th - that's impressive!Mr. BDE had a unique online grocery shopping experience that I'd like to share with you. Read the label on those wipes. Look at how long the surface must remain wet in order to work.I was at Wal-Mart today, literally, a full aisle of disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer for...wait for it....50
