I made a quick stop into Kroger/JayC after work today to pick up a couple items and noticed they are limiting the purchase of toilet paper and paper towel to two packages per person. The shelves were almost bare. I really didn’t need any but I bought one of each. Here we go again!

Of all the things to be sold out of...... small crock pot liners. Are there really that many people who have small crock pots? I don't think so. Good grief. I looked on Amazon and they are out too. WTH?

Picked up my produce today. Everything looks good except the cantaloupe and the veg skewers. Washing up the strawberries and romaine now. Once again entirely too many cucumbers. Oh well. I’ll munch on them and put them in my salad. Maybe look up my tzatiki recipe too.

We have a friend who makes pickles and shares them with us and others. Excellent! I believe he uses a sous vide thing to make them.

That’s an actual crock pot. I’m referring to the Reynolds Small Slow Cooker Liners that I bought for $2.37 in early October. Now there’s 1 box on Amazon for nearly $20!!! When I click on the Buy Again button it tells me they’re unavailable. I may have my daughter look at Walmart. They’re out at Publix.
well I obviously did something wrong - is showing on my end as
PanSaver Small Slow Cooker Liner for Kitchen Use, Fits 1-3 Quarts 5 Count 5/$6.15

Wow I want these!!! I love the 5-quart & really big ones.

Don't judge -- before COVID, I hadn't washed the ceramic Crock-pot liner for months. Those bags are wonderful!

Just think, scalloped potatoes, the part you generally have to scrub off is already in the trash.

jmho ymmv lrr but you won't have to lather the Crock-pot very often.

I gave my big crockpot to one of my kids. Now I have the 2.5 quart which is perfect for me. But I’ve used the liners for years. At potlucks, people were amazed when I tossed the bag and only had a serving spoon to wash. For the convenience, well worth the money - when there’s no price gouging!!!

OK, I'm old as dirt (and during pandemic I feel like dirt... but I digress)... Anyhooo... are you guys seeing the same as I am? In my entire LIFETIME I, at over 60, do not recall Turkeys being .49/lb! (And yes, I recall back in the days when cigarettes and gas per gallon were both 35 cents lol... as I said.. old as dirt here) Chicken and milk have both been soooooooooooooooo cheap, but this price for turkey.. I'm gobbled smacked!

I wish I had room in my freezer!

A few weeks ago I went for my produce pick up and they said they had milk. Did I want extra? I'm thinking an extra gallon so I said yes. They gave me 4 gallons of milk!! I gave it all away. I can't even get thru 1 gallon in 2 weeks unless I'm making pies.

I remember when a Super Target opened near us in TN, they had turkey breast, about 6-7 lbs each for $0.79/lb regularly. I would buy 4, put them in my big freezer in the basement. Every other month, I would put one on my rotisserie. We'd have Tday dinner with whatever the garden happened to be producing on the first night. Then the leftovers for a day or two. Any left over turkey was made into a pot pie, quesadillas, sandwiches, etc. I could feed the 4 of us for a week on one bird.

Publix offered them for .29/lb a few years ago after Thanksgiving - I bought one for the freezer and we had it in the spring.

I have also used the crock pot liners for years - Aldi carried them but I haven't seen them lately. It's fall/winter so my guess is people are cooking more crock pot meals to come home to a nice warm meal and that's why they are limited.

So far, our stores are well stocked - we had the usual "run" on supplies when we thought the hurricane was going to hit us but it swung north.

I have never heard of smashing cucumbers. I guess if you're mad about something, that would be a good way to get that anger out. LOL! I take the salting of them is to get the liquid to drain more. I'd just lay them on paper towels for a bit. We don't eat much salt. I'll stick with seeding and dicing them.

Actually I was really annoyed day! No, read about it. The salad was great.

My preferred way to use cucumbers is a very simple salad with sliced or cubed cukes, tomatoes (sliced or cubed), chopped red onion, salt, and pepper. Add your favorite dressing and toss with spinach and/or mixed greens. Add crumbled blue cheese or feta, if desired.

When I was a kid my favorite summer treat was sliced cucumbers soaked in vinegar with salt pepper and sliced onions. We called them refrigerator pickles and I would eat them for dessert. I also was a big fan of clam dip, I was an odd child.

clam dip:
1 brick softened cream cheese
2 cans chopped clams, the short can I drain one and leave juice in other
2 scallions chopped
2 tbs bacon bits
1 tsp lemon juice

combine all the ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth, serve with potato chips, preferably ridged chips.

How’s your homemade salsa stash? I’d still kill for some of that. :)

Salsa in an amazing pandemic pantry item, bc as I’ve mentioned before, it has great base ingredients when you don’t have fresh tomatoes, onions, chilies...and you can put it on about anything to make it taste better. And it’s economical and shelf stable. I like to order different brands and varieties.

Good so far. This batch got a bit spicy which helps limit the amount I put on anything. I agree it does help mix things up a bit as far as flavor.
