We were in Florida when the pandemic struck us-- from day 1 to the day we left in June, Publix never had toilet paper. It is amazing how they just don't seem to have it together. We had to go to Walmart. Good they have enough supply of food though!!! - Were people wearing masks?

SWFL: Popped into Publix at 3:30pm today. Almost full parking lot, busy in the store and the toilet paper was completely gone. There were maybe 6 packs of paper towels. Plenty of food though!!
I asked the curbside delivery employee about shortages and she said the entire aisle of paper products was empty again, it’s never been fully stocked since February.
She also mentioned they have a shortage of can cat food.

@ilovewings - 2 days is the max I would keep your fresh turkey in the refrigerator. Keep it in the bottom shelf on a cookie sheet or in a pan to catch any juices that will come out.

Here is some more info for everyone that I give out to my customers this time of year:
Let's Talk Turkey

Thanks for the info: i am thinking maybe we will get a frozen turkey-- i think it takes 5 days to thaw-----

Yeah actually I don’t remember seeing many people without masks.

I did notice there were 2 newly marked spots for pickup. The signs had been installed but were covered in plastic.

My family lives in New Mexico.

Their regular Wal-Mart is closed -- too many sick employees.

Big sis has a $20 store credit, because they cancelled her usual Wednesday pickup.

Target is closed, too. Big Sis is happy that she brought home a frozen turkey breast a couple weeks ago.

The Wild West, I suppose!

DH and I and originally planned to get our holiday outdoor greens today and pick up non-perishable food items at Nino's. One of us would have had to return to the store for perishables, but I changed my menu so I won't need lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes for salad. I will make Waldorf Salad instead (apples, grapes, celery, dried cherries, toasted walnuts, mayonnaise). Now that Michigan restaurants are closed (again!) until December 8, many folks who might have had dinner out on Thanksgiving or over the holiday weekend are likely to be crowding into grocery stores that are always very busy in the days leading up to the holiday. The less time spent in a grocery store, the better. We will probably go to Nino's on Sunday and get everything we'll need for the holiday weekend. Be safe.

Just came back from the supermarket closest to us (Market Place)-- we wanted to shop for Thanksgiving dinner when it wasn't too crowded: it was great: hardly any people there: bought a turkey and some other items-- we were in and out pretty quickly---

By the way I love Waldorf salad but I am too lazy to make it!!!

Enjoy and stay well

I think my MIL lives in the same town. Santa Fe? Now the big Smith's and the Sam's Club are closed too. Terrible for so many. Long, long lines at the other grocers in town.

Waldorf Salad was always part of my family's Thanksgiving dinner. We only had it for Thanksgiving, but I make it frequently as a main course with grilled chicken breast.

We have streamlined our menu as well to limit in store trips. I am fortunate that Whole Foods will deliver to us free via Prime. I made an order for the non perishables late last week. We will have Tofurkey ( vegans, here), mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy, whole fresh cranberries, Sautéed spinach, yams, stuffing and rolls. I also have a fresh pumpkin for making a pie. The only thing that I didn't want to buy too early was the appetizer tray items. Celery, carrots, baby cucumbers, radish, green onion stalks. I will try and order those via Whole Foods on Tuesday. If they are out of stock by then, we can live with what we have. We are skipping the green salad. That Waldorf Salad sounds lovely. I have a nice vegan mayo I could use......I might add that to the menu. Mr Pirate would love it.
And just in case anyone was wondering, no family dinner here....just the two of us. We will eat for days but that is fine.

Speaking of Whole Foods...DH and I bought a pie there about a week ago, called Scarlett Pie. OMG it was incredible. I think it was cranberries, apples, fig, and walnut. (edited to add: also pear!) If you get a chance, maybe try a slice? Not sure if it's vegan or not though.

Yes, traditional for my family as well. Goes back a long way. Such good memories!

That sounds amazing. I will check it out when I make my next order. Thanks

I am so happy this holiday is almost over. I have been telling my customers for weeks, place your turkey orders early, there is going to be a problem getting small birds this year, sure enough I am completely out of anything under 20lbs and got about 10 calls today from restaurants looking for small birds..

TO has just been put back into total lockdown for 28 days starting on Monday. ugh

The grocery stores will be bedlam but I am hoping to get there tomorrow and try to stock up on detergent, paper products and Chunky soup. Also frozen veg and some fresh meat (to freeze).

Had to turn our water off three days ago at the main, plumber cant get here until next Friday!!

What a silly week up in the Great White North.

Something to make you smile:

We cannot allow this year to end.

That would be admitting that 2021.

The Dollar General here has a lot of paper products. I walked thru but didn’t buy anything. I didn’t want to wait in line for 1 thing so I left.

the last time I went into a Dollar General (they stock a dog biscuit that Mr. Dog must have ), there was a young guy with more food in a cart than I have ever seen. This DG is a very small store and does not even have a real check out- just a little counter made even smaller now with a plexiglass barrier. Apparently the guy had a DG gift card and was getting whatever food was available for several families. It took a loooong time for him to check out and when he was finished I think that the DG food aisles were severely depleted.
