I didn’t realize Publix hasn’t given out rain checks on sale items since the pandemic started. I wanted the paper towels that were on sale but they were out. I had to buy another type which were not as good of a price for the quantity. At least I was able to get some to stock up.

I noticed many shelves were sparse. The signs stating manufacturers limitations were back up. The quantity of many items was lower as in the section of the shelf dedicated to it was less.

There were a few things I noticed were much higher priced. As in, I didn’t buy them because of it. It was very noticeable on the BOGO items. The “regular” price was way up and thus the price for the 2 items wasn’t that good of a deal. My budget is too limited to play games.

I found a new to me item while perusing the frozen section. Cheese filled breadsticks were$3.59 for a box of 5. The box is decent sized. I am curious to try them. They remind me of cheese stuffed pizza crust. My splurge of the week.

Other than organic chicken, I have completely stopped shopping at publix during the pandemic. At the beginning when I asked for a rain check the cashier laughed in my face and that really ticked me off. I didn’t know they weren’t giving them. Prices skyrocketed and BOGO selection was poor. But they are the only store in town with organic chicken.

I live in Michigan and notice some shelves are bare but I have to say overall, things are good. If I go to one store and notice an item gone, I can is usually find it at another down the road. That is the benefit of living in a larger city. We went to Costco yesterday and the Costco brand paper towel was in stock but not the bounty. And the Charmin was fully stocked but the Costco brand toilet paper was gone. But overall the shelves were full. Lots of cleaning products and hand sanitizer as well as other disinfectant products. And for my grand babies, I was able to score three giant Squishmallow Hello Kitty pillows in the exact character they wanted. Christmas shopping begins :D !!

DH has always been a cereal/oatmeal for breakfast person. Now that the weather has turned cooler, he is ready to have oatmeal every morning. He's very particular about his oatmeal and found an online source for McCann's single serving packets, so he ordered eight boxes of plain oatmeal. There are 12 packets in each box, so he has plenty of stock. Meijer has never carried McCann's; Nino's charges $6 box and rarely has it on sale.

Not sure if it's true, but when plants/trees have abundant fruits and nuts, it allegedly means that winter will be harsh. Our dogwoods are heavily laden with berries. We've seen squirrels sitting on the branches enjoying the berries. Last winter, we bought 10 pounds of whole walnuts from an online distributor. We will order the nuts again next month to keep the squirrels happy throughout the winter months.

Haven't noticed any shortages, but prices are up on many items, especially chicken and meat.

We have a persimmon tree that’s about ten years old. It has rarely made fruit. This year, it made a bumper crop. The limbs are sagging under the weight and our pear tree was the same way.

We have received notice from suppliers over last few weeks that small turkeys are going to be a problem this year again for Thanksgiving. If you use a smaller size bird for your Thanksgiving meals, I would suggest that you get one as soon as you can and stick it in your freezer. Poultry prices seem to be backing down a bit as well as some beef items.

Last year when we were given our turkeys, I received a 23 lb bird. My friend who has a big family received a 13 lb bird. I texted her and said Help! LOL! So we traded.

We have several oaks behind our home (not in our yard). In recent days, even a slight breeze causes the trees to "rain" acorns. Squirrels are scurrying about madly to collect, eat, and/or bury them.

I put flannel sheets on our bed yesterday, DH ordered a pair of flannel pajamas, and I ordered two fleecy loungewear sets from Macy's. Winter is on its way :D

Time to light a fire in the fireplace and sip some wine!

So Mr Pirate reads a lot of historical fiction. He was telling me just recently that acorns are mentioned in his books as a food source. Here is a little history:

Nutritious Acorns Don't Have To Just Be Snacks For Squirrels

and since this is a recipe kind of place:

How to Make Acorn Flour

Bon Appetit! I think o_O
Oh my gosh, we have an oak tree in the back yard. This year was a BUMPER crop, I think it's finally done dropping. I have enough acorns for you all to try making flour. DM me your address :D
