Gun Control Debate #3

Interesting idea I saw on another forum- if the age to purchase firearms is changed to 21, how about also changing the voting age to 21? Makes sense, if they can’t be trusted with a firearm they also are apparently not mature enough to vote either.

Hi! I answered this on the other thread, but will repeat that I highly doubt it, as retailers can refuse service. Think same sex wedding cakes and pharmacists and insurance companies and birth control.

Those refusals are based on religious grounds. I don't know if a retailer can refuse service base on their opinion.

Young people in the US can't drink until they are 21. But they can serve their country and buy a gun. That is a kinda skewed system in my opinion

How many people can a 19yo kill by voting?

You can't rent a car until you're 25. And in some states you can get married before you're old enough to rent a hotel room.

Depends if you vote for a tyrannical despot I guess. Or a politician who doesn't back gun control.

Do you think a vote for an NRA-friendly candidate is equal to walking into a school with a locked and loaded AR15?

Same thing--religion just means many people have that same opinion

Yes, tbh. Because nothing I've read from the NRA makes one iota of sense. It's all "don't you dare infringe on my personal liberty; even if it means 14,000 preventable deaths of people a year!"

I think an 18yo is capable of making a decision about who to select while in a voting booth. Just like they're able to go to college or join the military or get married (though I think younger than 18 is too young for that!). Though IMO the drinking age should be at least 19, not because of maturity levels but because they could still be in high school with kids much younger.

18 year olds all over the country are saying that gun control needs to be tighter and being accused of being plants by NRA supporters. If a vote at 18 is valid then an opinion on gun control from kids, some who have been involved in mass shootings, is equally as valid.

For many mass shooters, armed guards aren’t a deterrent, they’re part of the fantasy

But researchers have found that the overwhelming majority of people who commit mass public shootings are suicidal at the time of their attacks: They fully intend to die, either by a self-inflicted gunshot wound or a shootout with police.

NOW, this more than anything is proof he sleeps during his security briefings. He has no clue about terrorism... mass shootings or the motivations !!

Where's the data that backs up your statement that 14,000 deaths per year can be prevented by anything that's being proposed. I haven't seen it.

But you believe a vote a vote for an NRA-friendly candidate is equal to walking into a school with a locked and loaded AR15. I disagree. I believe anyone 18yo or above should have the right to vote and a vote for _blank candidate_ is NOT equal to murdering 17 high school students.
:peace:

They could be.
How? They are following the law. Age isn't a protected class as far as retail service discrimination is concerned.

Can you please provide a link supporting the idea that refusing to sell alcohol to an underage person is age discrimination?

To me the Bible is clear on thou shalt not kill, love one another. That kind of thing. I do not understand god and guns
