Laura Ingraham Loses 8 Sponsors After Parkland Survivor David Hogg Calls for Boycott

At least eight major companies announced Thursday that they were pulling their sponsorship of Laura Ingraham’s Fox News program because of a Wednesday tweet by the anchor widely seen as mocking Parkland, Florida, school shooting survivor David Hogg.

Hulu, TripAdvisor, Wayfair, Nutrish, Expedia, Stitch Fix, Johnson & Johnson and Nestle bowed to public pressure to stop advertising on “The Ingraham Angle” after Hogg himself called for a boycott of her sponsors.

Home furnishing site Wayfair said in its statement: “As a company, we support open dialogue and debate on issues. However, the decision of an adult to personally criticize a high school student who has lost his classmates in an unspeakable tragedy is not consistent with our values. We do not plan to continue advertising on this particular program.”

He was accepted to Florida Atlantic University, Cal State San Marcos and Cal Poly, he said, though in the interview he didn't specify if that was Cal Poly SLO or Pomona (in general, Cal Poly refers to the San Luis Obispo university, while Pomona is specified).

The New York Times reported Thursday that Hogg was accepted to the former, saying he planned to study either journalism or political science.

In a different New York Times article, he said he was considering taking a gap year to focus on the midterm elections.

Some African-American students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida say their voices have been ignored by the media and others in the aftermath of the deadly school shooting.

"The Black Lives Matter movement has been addressing (gun violence) since the murder of Trayvon Martin in 2012, yet we have never seen this kind of support for our cause and we surely do not feel the lives or voices of minorities are valued as much as those of our white counterpart," student Tyah-Amoy Roberts told reporters this week, according to CNN affiliate WPEC-TV.

The white man accused of committing "a mass shooting in Florida (was) not shot once, but a young black man holding a cellphone is shot 20 times," Benjamin Crump said of the unarmed father gunned down this month by Sacramento, California, police who say they thought he had a gun.

"These examples are benchmarks in terms of understanding that if you think there's been progress, ... we have a long way to go before law enforcement in America is doing its jobs as it should be done," Jeffrey Robinson, director of the Trone Center for Justice and Equality at the American Civil Liberties Union, said of half a dozen cases that gained national attention in recent weeks.

"It's a very difficult thing to admit that race makes a difference in the criminal justice system," he said, "because if we admit that's true, it says some pretty ugly things about ourselves as a nation."

Retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens has raised a ruckus with a call to repeal the 2nd Amendment. It pains me to disagree with a lion of the court, but I think a repeal effort would be deeply misguided. It's politically unwise and legally unnecessary.

Advocating for repeal, in essence, advocates for National Rifle Assn. leader Wayne LaPierre's vision of the Constitution. But the 2nd Amendment doesn't guarantee unlimited gun rights, and it never has.

The Constitution is not a bar to sane gun legislation. A broken political system and a failure of will in Congress and statehouses are the culprits, not the words scratched on parchment two and a half centuries ago.

The NRA said that the March For Our Lives was “backed by radicals with a history of violent threats, language and actions.” That allegation rested on the idea that the Women’s March played a major role in the march, and the NRA host mentioned two co-chairs by name.

We found no evidence that either the organization or those people were directly involved in the march.

The Women’s March website did not even list the gun control march as an upcoming event.

The only significant tie between the marches is a producer who leads the Los Angeles chapter of the Women’s March. But the chapter said it was not involved, and the producer acted on her own to apply for permits and establish the March For Our Lives’ nonprofit support fund.

Secret Service report: Here's what people who carried out 28 mass attacks in the US have in common

Seventy-nine percent of those who conducted a mass attack in the U.S. last year had previously engaged in threatening or concerning communications, with one-third threatening the specific target in some way prior to the attack, according to a new Secret Service report.

The report on 28 mass attacks in the U.S. in 2017, defined as one that harms three or more people, analyzes what drives someone to launch such an assault — and what others can look out for to help prevent them.

Nearly half of the attacks were motivated by either a workplace grievance or ideology, including racism, according to the report.

All 28 mass attacks had one common thread - all were committed by males, ranging in age from 15 to 66.

Sixty-four percent experienced mental health symptoms sometime prior to their attacks, according to the Secret Service.

The agency suggested that certain triggers could play a role in mass attacks, noting that all of the incidents last year were tied to at least one significant stressor, such as a romantic issue or an illness.

In fact, 57 percent of those who carried out attacks last year experienced "stressors" related to financial instability in the five years before their attack, the Secret Service report said.

Seventy-one percent had histories of criminal charges beyond minor traffic violations.

And a quarter of them were perpetrated by someone who previously faced charged related to domestic violence.

Stephen Paddock had worked so efficiently in his life that he was a millionnaire, and afaik took no psychotropic drugs. There was nothing to prevent him buying 40+ guns and assorted ammunitions.
