DH is still awaiting test results, but all but one other employee returned to the office today after negative rapid tests. DH and another colleague preferred to have a standard test because they are more accurate. Even if his test is negative, DH is not planning to go to the office this week and will wait to see if anyone else develops symptoms next week before deciding to return. In the meantime, we are both fine and have no reason to suspect that DH was inadvertently exposed to an employee who tested positive. My thoughts and prayers will any of you who have family members who are ill.

The problem with the negative results, is that they really are meaningless. That is why people who are exposed to a positive lab confirmed Covid case, have to quarantine for two weeks, even if they get a negative test result.

Because the titers may not be high enough right after exposure to measure.

That is precisely why DH will not return to the office. Rapid tests are known to be unreliable - DH's PCP won't even recommend a facility that does them. Anyone who returned to the office following a rapid test might actually be a carrier, and DH isn't going to take any chances. His test results are still pending: Turnaround time is more like 72+ hours now that they are doing much more testing than last summer.

My husband's 24-48 hr test came back positive after about 24 hours. That was yesterday. Today, two of the kids and I are not feeling well so getting test tomorrow.

Funny side note: my friend said she might as well go lick a park bench if my family got it, because she doesn't know anyone who's been more careful. :(

Oh no :(
Sorry your family is sick! Keep us posted!

Oh no. I'm so sorry. Hoping your symptoms will be very mild and very short lived if the tests are indeed positive.

That comment from your friend is hysterical!

So sorry your family is sick. I sincerely hope it's a mild case and quickly resolved for all.
I'm beginning to think it's not IF but WHEN we all get this.

If anyone gets the rapid tests, can they post (and always ask) what test is being used?

Reason I'm asking is that some are not meant for dx, but are meant to be back to back over time. (See Dr. Campbell and Dr. Seheult videos...)

BTW.. I haven't seen Dr. Seheult/Medcram come on my feed for a while.. I'll need to look into.

DH's test result was negative, but he has no plans to return to the office. He will eventually have to clean out his desk/office but can do that after Thanksgiving when everyone who might have had contact with the employee who is now quarantined has been well for 14+ days.

The kids' tests were at the children's hospital, drive up with appointments. They were nasal swabs. Mine was a drive up appointment in a gas station parking lot with a POD set up. They had me cough three times and then soaked a swab with saliva from my tonsils, both inner checks, and under my tongue.

I'm glad to hear that! I imagine you were too. :)

DH announced his retirement in June, so it isn't imperative for him to be in the office daily during the pandemic. A capable young man was hired to assume some of DH's responsibilities, so DH has wanted to be in the office when possible to "coach" his young protege. The training has gone very well even without DH being there daily during this pandemic.

How long for your test results?
So sorry - sounds like your whole family is sick!

I have been cutting and coloring my own hair, doing my own mani pedicures since March. I went one time in June, but been keeping it up myself since then.

I like the semi permanent hair color the best. It is a shampoo conditioner that looks great. I am using Platinum, looks like I am having my hair professionally frosted.

Got two kids back this morning. One was positive, but he has felt ok for two days already. The other was negative, but she's quite sick, so doc says we tested her too early. Expecting my results tomorrow. Will test the negative child and the other two kids Tuesday or Wednesday.

Oh my goodness you have your hands full!!! I’m so sorry this happening to your family. I hope there’s people who can drop off meals, mow, shovel snow, grocery shop, etc for you!!

Please take care of you too. That saying Put the oxygen mask on yourself first is so very true. (((Hugs)))

It seems like kids are sick for a few days, if that. And parents feel like crap for two weeks or so...

Get better soon.

This sounds like an easy product to use; it's tempting to give it a try, although few people see my hair these days. I haven't colored my hair in years, largely because of having to deal with the upkeep.

We could probably get meals if we needed them, but we aren't even really too sick to cook. 16yo son is well enough to mow now. No snow, it was 83 F today! We have a grocery delivery tonight.

I've been resting today.

Thanks. The daughter I'm most concerned about is almost 19. My husband was sick for three days. So far we've had it good.

Don’t overdo it! Sounds like a quick recovery for your 16 year old son!
