Buc-cees was insane. We will not be stopping there again. So, so many people. The bathrooms are completely touchless once you leave a stall, which is great, but the sheer number of people, and only half wearing masks and/or distancing, completely outweighs the bathroom benefits.

Oh wow, don’t know which one you stopped at but I bet most of them are like that now. The beaches are probably crazy busy.

We stopped at the Buc-cees just north of Austin.

Bob Hall Pier in Corpus was busy but not overcrowded yesterday. In general, people were very good about distancing, including the parking lots and the beaches. We will not be visiting any beaches over the weekend.

I went to a Walgreen’s pharmacy today. I wore my mask and the employees are required to wear masks. 2 employees had their masks under their mouths. I asked the cashier if the store policy required masks and why did she have her mouth uncovered. I spoke to the store manager who had his mask on properly and why were employees at a pharmacy allowed to potentially place customers at risk.
From now on, I will try to only shop at my local Costco where employees are all wearing masks properly.

They are really serious about infection control at Costco. I picked out some glasses there the other day. The optical area is closed off.
1. The optician takes your temperature and asks you questions before you are admitted to the area. Only one person at a time can look at glasses.
2. They have you use hand sanitizer before you enter.
3. You are handed a small plastic basket, if you try on frames, you put the used frames in the basket for disinfecting after you are done.

The employees are wearing masks, and very professional. Top notch Costco!

DH has been working from home since mid-March. About half of the office employees worked from home until May 18 when all of them returned to work. Workers in the steel processing center have been there all along because they could keep sufficient distance from one another in the spacious plant. DH learned this morning that one of the plant employees has tested positive for COVID-19  Anyone with whom he came in contact at work must now be tested. DH will continue to work from home until the end of the year when he retires.

Yup, 2 weeks is about right. Social distancing is good but not foolproof. So glad to here your hubby can stay home and stay safe.

My daughter connected with a childhood friend yesterday. The girl had flown down from TN, went out partying, to the beach and by the pool for the last week. My kid said they floated in the pool, stayed away from each other and just talked. She will now stay away from me for at least a month. She lives an hour away so it won’t be hard. Maybe I’ll see her in July for her birthday.

I expect that we will see an increase in cases this coming weekend based on the scenes of large gatherings for Memorial Day. Then, there will likely be additional cases in mid-June that result from throngs of protestors across the country. Sadly, I think we are in for one very rough summer :(

Well, I guess we get to test that "virus is weakening" theory. Jmo

The magical day has finally arrived :) The Merry Maids are here for the first time in more than two months. DH and I did our best to keep the house tidy and fairly clean, but we don't do as good a job as the professionals. The team will be here for 90 minutes today instead of their usual one-hour cleaning. They will do the guest bedroom/bath that they don't do during regular cleanings. They are wearing masks, and I greeted them at the front door with my mask. I wanted to hug the ladies but, of course, that's not a good thing right now :D

I hope everyone is well and that your lives are beginning to return to some sense of normalcy. Michigan continues to reopen slowly and methodically, but I'm in no hurry to rush out for dinner or to a large mall. I look forward to a haircut, manicure, and pedicure but those venues remain closed at this time. The Governor's goal is to have everything reopened by July 4, so we could still be a month away from personalized services. Be well.

It will be interesting to see if the rioting across the nation will increase the spread of C-19 and what effect that will have on reopening and returning to offices. I have friends who's office is closed until Sept 1st. Fortunately they are all still employed.

I suspect that there will be surges in the virus following crowds on Memorial Day weekend and from the large groups of folks who are protesting across the nation. While I'm glad to see that Michiganders can finally start to venture out in public again, I have no desire to go into environments that might pose a health risk. DH and I will continue to spend most of our time at home and only go out when it is absolutely necessary.

I feel like I have been in some sort of "brain warp". My thinking has just been hazy.

So, I am starting a Triathlon training program. Need to get the body moving, and the brain woke!

Anyone else notice how antisocial this virus is making people? At work, we used to chat at lunch, enjoy breakfast buffet meetings once in awhile.

Now, everyone is at home, or meetings are online. No more chatty lunches or impromptu potlucks, or celebrating birthdays. It is sort of lonely and depressing. Very isolating. Work used to be fun. Now, it is grim. And high stress levels.

If the virus has another go around in the Fall/Winter, it will crush the holidays.

Due to the nature of my business I mostly work alone. So I didn't get the coworker perks. I notice complete strangers suddenly waving from cars a lot. And when I'm out working when people go by they say hi. It's like we're all starved for any interaction. Jmo

It’s going to be a crappy summer. And it seems like it lasts forever, think we had 90 days straight with temps over 100 last year.

Can’t social distance outside when it’s 100 degrees and high humidity. Real feel was 96 degrees yesterday. Can’t gather at the community pool, it’s for exercise now, not social gatherings - make a reservation and just a household group. No playing with other kids and no grandparents to help watch/give parents a break.

I’ve spent the last 5 years basically in isolation. In 2015 I took a job working from home. I loved it. In 2017 I was diagnosed with cancer, underwent a bone marrow transplant and have been isolating since then. This chillin at home is old hat for me. My personality is more introvert anyway. Interactions with other humans is natural and now we have to be more creative.

However, it is another level once the virus rolled into town. Now I can’t just mask up and go do what I want. Like go to the store to see and touch things before I buy them. I can’t just drive to a friends house to hang out. They have to isolate and then come to me. I haven’t been able to visit my relatives on the east coast either.

Now that we can go to the beach and parks, we make a big circle and block it off. Errant kids and oblivious adults get the message.

When I worked in an office, I always prepared something in a crockpot so people were forced to use a spoon. When I brought dessert, each item was in a small baggie or wax paper. When I ate in the break room, my portion of the table was covered with paper towels. I used a wet paper towel to wipe it off first. People thought I was over the top. I couldn’t get thru to them that sitting their lunch box on the table was nasty. I heard after I left that roaches would be seen in the kitchen during the day. Nope. Nope. Nope. Now they think I’m a genius.

“Do you need to wear a mask while exercising? Is it safe to socialize outside? Should I wipe down my groceries when I get home? These are the questions that still remain as the country reopens amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Many infectious disease experts and epidemiologists have been fielding these types of inquiries from family and friends who are curious how to safely resume their activities. “

"As a physician, I always try to practice what I preach," Jay Varkey, associate professor of medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine and hospital epidemiologist at Emory University Hospital, tells CNBC Make It. "So, the activities I engage in with my family are similar to what I advise my patients and my friends when they ask.”

I shared my experience wearing a mask during physical therapy sessions on the Facial Mask Making thread - #461.
