Thanks, Nova; now that IS confusing - Iranians aren't ARABS; but they're Muslim? Frankly, it's all too confusing to me - the Baathists were SUnnis, but then there are lot of other Sunnis, and all the different Shiite sects.

Yikes. Don't worry, it's our main ideas that we hope to come across, Nova; the details aren't that important. ;) I have no problem admitting I'm undereducated in Middle Eastern knowledge, history or anything else. Who could possibly know it all? ;)

I find the Middle East confusing, too, Martha, and I don't mind saying so. I only spoke up 'cause some other posters like to pick at every little thing.

Iranians are predominantly Muslim, and Shia like the Baathists. This is a large part of the traditional conflict between Iran and Sunni-controlled Iraq.

But ethnically, Iranians are largely Persian while Iraqis are largely Arabs (like the Saudis).

Although it's confusing, it's really no more a muddle than Europe used to be when traditionally Protestant Germans were killing traditionally Catholic Poles and also killing Jews who where themselves actually Germans and Poles, etc.

I am mad at them....every last damned one of them.

Those that kill in the name of their prostituted god and those that sit back quietly and let it happen without protest....that is until someone prints a cartoon of their prostituted god.

Then, I think you need to educate yourself. You sound like you've lumped a whole lot of people into one group that you hate. That can be dangerous.

So they are PERSIAN MUSLIMS, rather than ARAB MUSLIMS?. Ok, so the Saudis and Iraqis are Arabs? But are the Shia Iraqis Arabs?

Well, also the Irish Protestants and Catholics - how they massacred each other so long!!!

And the ethnic slaughter in Bosnia - yes, it has gone on everywhere. Some truly believe that religion itself is as much an evil as a help to people, and sometimes I wonder.

We're speaking in general terms, of course, but, yes, the Shia in Iraq are generally Arabs. (Iraq and Iran lie next to one another and the political boundaries were drawn relatively recently. So of course you can find Persians in Iraq and Arabs in Iran, but we're speaking broadly.)

And though we don't want to make simplistic comparisons between Christian sects and Muslim divisions, we are talking about an intersection of nationalism and religion that can be seen elsewhere.

Bosnia is a great example of how people's religious identity can become a sort of "ethnicity" regardless of whether individuals are devout or not. But that's really OT. :)

Wanna join them? :D :D :D

I am plenty educated....I can clearly see when someone says one thing and does another. I can also tell where a person's priorities lie by listening to them.

CAIR and the muslims of the world can't be bothered when someone--in the name of THEIR god--shoots children fleeing a slaughter in the back (Russia). Or when a muslim man pushes schoolgirls back into a burning building because they don't have their headscarves on and several die. Or or or. I can see their lack of care and outrage.

Yet, when some guy prints a cartoon of allah with a bomb in his turbin, they riot and kill people.

I really don't need to see much beyond that.

No, in my prior post you evidently didn't see my comments about the Nazis, etc., which was the subject of this thread.

Once again, we should trust our instincts and anxieties, expecially concerning people who claim that dominating others, violence, war, or some other violation of our conscience is the grand solution to some problem.

The Nazis were lead by a sociopath, or several sociopaths; and others just sheepled along.......

Well, as you can imagine, the thread has been closed. If you can't log in, its because you've been timed out.
