"plus a 15 minute repair at most"...
Pua, I can't get his story out of my head either, but I 100% believe he did not touch a truck, any truck, to fix that night. There was no repair. Lies, all lies made up from previous memories with Taylor.
Agree, and it had occurred to me when I read her story that here was a bit of reality to hang a later lie on.

I wasn't saying his story happened at all. I'm saying he gave the detectives a timeframe of 2 1/2 hours which included driving the highway there and back + 15 minute repair job, and the detectives who know the drive were OK with that time frame. The spot where his truck didn't really break down is farther down the road than the crime scene, so say two hours for the drive to and from the turn off to Nua'ailua, give or take a few.

If he had 3 1/2 hours and returned at midnight, then that gives him 1 1/2 hours, but then 1/2 hour or so to go to Nahiku and back, so only one hour for the murder and everything else (by my rough calculations).

I think he went to Nahiku first and dropped off Nala, and her phone's last ping off a tower is at 10:58. Otherwise he does not have any time to go to Nahiku and still make the rendezvous at Hanzawa's, not with an hour's drive back from Paraquat's. Even then, it is tight, as he must have switched vehicles and stopped at his home for grandfather to see.

When they found her burning car did it say how much gas was in the tank?

I don't see how they would know. The Forerunner wasn't still burning; it was completely burned up. The gas would have ignited in that hot of a fire.

From Thread #4 page 3, by Loio

"The trucks business: lol oh no, here we go again!

Charli's primary car, the SUV 4runner was left at Jaws and burned. We all know this.

Charli's parts 4runner - a salvage car used for parts was left upcountry with friends. It was towed to her family's place after she went missing and then STOLEN. At least that's what I followed on FB.

SC's 4runner, supposedly stuck overnight from Saturday Feb 8 to Sunday Feb 9th in Keanae. It was reported by the media that he was caught on camera driving this truck around Paia, Sunday Feb 9th in the afternoon before Charli went missing.

SC's new truck, a Ford something is not mentioned in the media. This is strictly insider info. He wanted the advance for this truck to get new mud tires.

Unidentified truck driven by SC in Hana is supposedly rumor. This was gossiped right after Charli went missing when emotions were high and as far as is known has not been substantiated."

For reference
Thank you! I missed this post the first time around, and didn't realize there was a NEW truck, a Ford, in play.

Thanks, Kapua. Wish Loio were still on here with us to answer questions. Which "truck" was detailed Mon, Feb 10? The 4 Runner? Presumably he had the new Ford truck before Charli was murdered, as he took the loan before then, no?
Taylor mentions he brought a new truck to a Superbowl party at her house in 2014. So this would be the Ford?
The detailing I have only from FTL and no make or model mentioned.

I looked up the Superbowl 2014 date. It was the previous Sunday, Feb. 2nd.

Probably the 4Runner, since that appears to be his primary vehicle. If he desperately needed to replace the tires on the Ford truck, that may be why he was only able to use it to go to Hanzawa's.

Taylor's testimony is critical in several ways. With her making so many calls to him during the time he was... unable to get to his phone, the phone records may show his approximate locations at particular times on Feb. 9. Also, we now know what the foundation for his "stuck truck" story was, and we know that he would not abandon it on Hana Hwy., as he claimed he did. He would sleep there before he would abandon it because "it would get stolen." We know that contrary to what he told the police, he hated kids and never wanted to get married. He wanted to make sure that Taylor would have an abortion should she become pregnant. According to Taylor, on Feb. 9, midnight-ish, his face looked stern and he seemed irritated or pissed off - and he kept his hands down at his thighs so that she couldn't see the marks on the backs of his hands. SC told Taylor that he could not meet with her earlier than midnight because he "had something to take care of." He said his 4Runner was "broken down at his house." We know that SC's cousin was crying hysterically when she found out that Charli was missing, but was riding around with SC and Taylor just a week later. (I want to hear the cousin's story.)

All allegedly, according to Taylor. And kudos to her for stepping up and telling the truth as she knows it. Good job, Taylor!

KHON missed all of it. Pathetic.

Good Point about lies to hang onto. Like the Dude picking him up was a Rasta version of himself and his car like that of Brooke's

Ok, taking away everything single last thing SC has said... which is hard because it's imbedded in my brain. I'm gonna throw out a scenario. Please feel free to correct anything that doesn't make sense. My head is spinning and I'm going with my thought right now.

Charli had no gas in her car and I don't think her intent was to go anywhere with Steven. I need help from locals on this. I think I finally have a vision of the area. I was surprised when I mapped KS West Kuiaha home to SC grandfather home on Kalipo Place and how close they were to each other. Really close actually, right? I feel maybe she agreed to meet him near his house to talk, maybe at a park or just simply in her car. But then again, she was tired, pregnant and it wasn't really the "right" time on a Sunday night after a party to have a long sit down talk about the baby. We don't know what their texts said. Don't beat me up over this because it changes nothing, but maybe she went to get drugs from him for a friend. She could swing by quick, get whatever and head home. Not much gas needed. No long night, no drive down Hana, no reason to tell her family. Or maybe he asked her to swing by to borrow the Twilight DVD. Maybe, maybe maybe. But now I don't believe he ever told her his car was stuck. He made that up from memory from the past with Taylor as we heard today.

If she left West Kaiaha Rd and he walked through the back of his property through the woods and had her pick him up back there or met him there, she wouldn't need that much gas.
He could have have killed her there, hid her truck in the woods/jungle and then drove up Hana in the borrowed truck. How did he get her down Hana then? As we've said driving would be very very risky.

Or she could have gotten in the borrowed truck with him and they both went down Hana. Her car parked on some back road after meeting him around his house. 1000 scenarios on what he would have told her to get her to go. He convinces her to go down the path, again 1000 scenarios on how, and killed her there. I feel like it kinda makes sense that he could have told her he wanted to be with her again and said it was a date to hang out, maybe hook up and told her he found a romantic spot so bring a blanket and a movie, the Twilight DVD, because they were going to watch the movie. He kills her on the path. (Phone ping) And disposes of her right then and there, : ( but it's dark and he unknowingly leaves items behind. That really makes sense in my head...right this second.
In this scenario, her car is back by his house and still, with very little gas needed, he later drives it to the coincidently super close Jaws and burns it.

Sigh. My heart goes out to her family and friends. This is a nightmare.

Close as the bee flies but not in and out through twisting gulches. Drove her 4Runner doorless at night to Jaws from Kalipo. Down Peahi (Haiku) road. This very possible though doubtful in my mind.

Do you suppose that he got the new white Ford because both his vehicle and Charli's were distinctive-looking? Or did he just want to upgrade his ride? Or both?

Many great points, Kapua.
I question how Taylor could not remember which night she met SC at Hanzawas, given that it should have been seared into her memory after talking with SC's hysterical cousin on the following Tues. and learned Charli was missing. A connection should have been made, but, whateva.
I also have my suspicions why the cousin was crying so inconsolably.......I want to her her testimony so badly!
Yep, the phone records......on the edge of my seat.

Great summary.
I would add that the cousin put out a plea to search for Charli right away, on Tuesday the 11th, calling her "my friend." And kept posting ... I believe she was upset for Charli and not worried about Steven, at that time.

Taylor lives in Makawao, I think, so he drove the Ford there, too. But he couldn't drive it to work and then claim that his only working vehicle, the 4Runner, was broken down and he needed a ride. I am still trying to figure out if he planned out that alibi, or made it up on the fly when cornered by the police.

Do you suppose that he got the new white Ford because both his vehicle and Charli's were distinctive-looking? Or did he just want to upgrade his ride? Or both?
Upgrade his ride for his new gal. He got it fronted to him. Still owed the guy. I believe the guy took it back for nonpayment. He got bugged at me when I posted his name on the "The Study" page so I took it down. He was one of these DJ types. I hear they are big ecstasy folks.

Why doubtful in your mind, PT?
Doubtful because once you turn off Kalipo the road gets busier. Once past 5 corners you are good till AlohaAina and then busy again and then still having to cross Hana Hwy.

People would hhave remered a doorlesss 4 runner driving down the road

Thanks for this, very nice.
I totally go with the first part that she never agreed to go anywhere and was making a quick stop only.
I question that he would drive a dead body out Hana Highway in a truck registered to him, with I believe a DUI caused suspended license making him prone to a traffic stop.
Re the DVD, I don't think it was taken out there per se. Phaedra identified it as a DVD that kicked around in Charli's car, like the blanket. These items were in her car regularly, so to me that indicates her car went out there.

As I said, people who live in the country keep gas on hand in containers, partly because yard work tools require gas, and partly because the stations are few and close early, so it's easy to run critically low on gas and keeping some on hand is just what you do after you get stuck enough times ... I am no survivalist type, but the guys in the family all keep gas on hand. But for him to fill it from a container if she did not pull in, that is a little trickier, it is true. Either he offered it because she mentioned her concern, or he incapacitated her and pulled up and got the gas. (If her truck went out there.)

I think the romantic idea would have worked at an earlier time, but I just think she was scared of him at this point, because he drove her out there against her will and refused to turn around. I don't think she would go out there. It is too remote and she was worn out after such a long day. I think he kidnapped her in Haiku, and took her out under duress, in her car, and that is why the DVD and blanket ended up on the scene.
But it is possible that the gas from a container would only be enough for a one way trip, and he would need to go back with more gas to get it away from there. I haven't done the math on the trip, and a truck of that age, and some unknown amount, and if I had it wouldn't be accurate, too many X factors. One doesn't get highway mileage on that road either.
Maybe PT could say how far 5 gallons plus enough to get from Haiku to Makawao that she still had would get her vehicle.

I'll say! Lol. How do you think Charli's car got to the Jaws area? Do you believe the dismantling could have happened there?

How about a grille-less 4Runner? Maybe he and his accessory removed the doors @ Jaws, possibly pulling off the road a bit and then only driving a very short distance to the location where they burned it. The accessory would then have put the doors and other parts into his vehicle and taken SC home.
