Thank you for the local input, Aj.
What town do you all start from to use 1/4 tank to Hana? Wailuku or there abouts?

wailuku, haiku would be less
he lived on the border of haiku/Peahi, other edge of haiku borders makawao, about a 15-20 min drive.

I just called the station and this this is true although they said 8

Thanks. The lady said she thought 7:30, lol. But she was sure couldn't pump gas when closed. She must be wondering why everyone calling for the gas station hours lol

Hmmm...That's interesting because I posted earlier how I was there in 2008 around 7:30 PM and the gas station appeared to be closed yet I was still able to gas up by swiping my debit card. They must have just been closing down for the night when I pulled in if what you say is true.

I have no reason to lie. And I have family in Hana, just now my family member in Hana ( is also police officer there) just texted me back. No gas when closed. Never has been.

Ive never seen a gas station able to pump gas when closed, wouldn't that be a HUGE liability? Spillage? Explosion? Etc

I also have no reason to lie, but it IS possible that I was mistaken about them being "closed," because it was a very rainy night and I did not try to go inside. But the gas station appeared dark and dimly lit to me which made me panic because I desparately needed gas. I was overjoyed to find that the card swiper worked and I was able to get gas. In my mind, it was CLOSED but perhaps I was WRONG.

So logically, since I was there AROUND closing time, they either were in the process of closing for the night or it simply appeared closed to me, but was not throroughly closed. OK?

The point is, we've now established that you cannot get gas after the gas station is closed around 7:30-8 PM, so Steven could not have been in Hana gassing up.

Full circle then. All in less than three hours. Lots to think about. I'm going to sleep on it...:offtobed:

Theories are fine but best to stick to facts. I don't contribute facts that I don't know the info.

I just went to Hana through Kaupo two days ago. I saw lots of SUVs and trucks hauling through. Most of the people I know that live on island go through Kaupo to get to Hana since the Hana Highway takes so much longer, especially during the day. I have ATT and I had a tiny bit of service in Hana but my phone didn't pick up service again until just about the winery. My cousin saw that a missing poster was still up for Charli at Hasegawa General Store. :( Sad.

I'm glad to have this info. from you and PT because now we know SC didn't go to Hana to get gas for return trip. So, Charli's car was gassed up somewhere before trip out Hana.

Well, I was totally wrong, then. Round trip it is. The truth in the lie "I drive faster than she does."

Many gas pumps are workable with a credit card after the convenience store is closed for the night. Yes, it's a liability, but many gas stations still do allow it 24/7.
Google it.

I just pumped gas after hours in Kahului a few days ago.

If they went the Kaupo way, could they have stopped in Pukalani or another town to gas up?

Very few gas stations DONT allow you to pump gas after hours. Most do.

Ok now I am not convinced that what the person who worked there answered me correctly. I thought I have gotten gas there after hours. I just assumed I was wrong quite easily. Nice catch Kapua. Im always miffed when I see a station that has pumps but doesn't let you do it after hours with a CC. I should go up to Hanazawa's right now and see if they do.

I too have thought I got gas there after hours. I recall that "I was overjoyed to find that the card swiper worked and I was able to get gas. " feeling.

But I might be wrong

Thread #4, I speculated he took the other way. It just made much more sense.

Someone said Kaupo route isn't really on SC's radar but that's incorrect. There's a huge party beach spot along the back way, shortly after the road smoothes out (coming from Hana). It's right after that huge Grand Canyon looking crevasse. If he's supplying Molly, he knows Kaupo.
