To or through, it makes zero sense to me that he went in the direction of Hana following the murders which we assume based on evidence took place in the Nua'ailua Bay area. From there, the shortest route to Jaws is back the way he came. I have never been to Hana at night, so I have no opinion as to whether or not gas can or cannot be purchased there after 7:30-8:00. My focus is SC's reason for going that direction. He'd already picked a good place to commit the murders. Do you think that his purpose was to hide the bulk of Charli and Joshua's remains in a different location? Or to pick up Ecstasy to sell?

He was not thinking very well that night and was making bad decisions left and right. I think we need to remmebr at this point he had no rational. We shouldnt expect one.

He destroyed the phone but kept the case? maybe to sell.
Still makes no sense why he would go to a police station with a murder victims cell phone case?

The latter because he is touched. The former perhaps to separate the items in case one was found so it would not be something they could tie together.

LOL! I drove it in a small-ish rental car the last time, maybe 6 or 7 years ago and the road was as you describe. There were ruts and rocks for miles. Hana Hwy. is narrow and twisty in places, but it's paved all the way. I personally wouldn't speed on either the Keanae side or the Kaupo side.
Not any more. You got a couple miles of bumps. He was in a 4wd

Kaupo to Nu'u landing is bumps. 3.7 miles. The rest is smooth as silk.

Maybe the green cellphone cover is Charli's but it fell off and dropped in the mud. SC may have gone back to find the phone so he can move it's location/ping point or delete that last message to Charli.

Ironically, her sisters say her cell cover was green with polka dots and a green cover was found. The polka dots may have been on the outside of the cover, not the inside. Pretty sure the inside is all green silicon or plastic, mines is.

Anyone else teetering on the edge and wondering why Rivera isn't delivering the big AH-HAH moment? We get critical info here and there but we need the "goods".

Which sleeve was stained? Which side of the skirt had holes? Did the cell cover have pink polka dots? Why did Shelly Tumbaga testify about Saturday morning?

Exactly. Trying to make sense of his actions is futile.

I agree that the inside of the cell phone case is probably solid green and the design is on the outside. I think he found the phone on Monday (or Tuesday) when he had more daylight, removed the case to get at the back of the phone and tossed the case in his 4Runner, opened the back of the phone and removed the chip to prevent the police from recovering any data (text message history) from the phone, then disposed of the phone. All he needed to do was toss it in the dense jungle. Why didn't he toss the case as well? I'm going to guess that it was pure carelessness.

I know we are all anxious to hear the AH-HA! part, but Rivera has to lay the foundation. Apo and that crazy letter writer have already delayed the trial and caused witnesses to be called out of order. But the story will be told.

Moxie, that is just speculation on my part. He called her phone 15 times within a half hour in the vicinity of the crime at the time Phaedra and Brooke see him driving up the dirt road on Tuesday. So I am just guessing he was looking for her phone. It makes sense that he was calling it to try to hear it to locate it. His first interview was not until the next morning on Wednesday, so if that green case that was found in the back of his car on Wednesday was hers, than maybe he found it. (And remember Kaiser did not see the green case when he found his own cell phone in SC truck on Monday).
The phone data shows he knew exactly where to look for the phone. He destroyed the phone but kept the case? maybe to sell.

I'm betting you and Kapua are right. He found her phone, destroyed it, but the case remained in his vehicle simply as a careless oversight. There were lots of these careless oversights because, although he had the inner rage to commit a violent murder, he was lacking the meticulous, systematic, exacting temperment required to make the crime seamless.

FBI expert: Defendant’s cellphone active at critical time

http://www.mauinews.com/page/content...me.html?nav=10

On the night murder suspect Steven Capobianco said his truck stalled past Keanae, his cellphone was active in the area around his Haiku residence, an FBI special agent testified Tuesday.

The following night, Feb. 9, 2014, when Capobianco told police he last saw his pregnant ex-girlfriend Carly "Charli" Scott, one of his cellphone communications indicated it could have been in the Keanae area, said Special Agent Michael Easter, who is assigned to the FBI Cellular Analysis Survey Team.

He said Capobianco's phone used a 2G cellphone tower sector for a text message at 9:49 p.m. Feb. 9, 2014. "That sector coverage area is consistent with being on the north side," Easter said. "It could be consistent with being in the area of the residence, but it also is consistent with being in the area of the Keanae crime scene."

Another text message at 11:20 that night used a 3G cellphone tower sector that was consistent with the phone being in the area of Capobianco's residence, Easter said.

I'm still not seeing a clear reported indication of his placement on the back way other than someone saying their source at the courthouse said it.
It's huge so I'm looking to really understand.

It is huge. Here are some quotes from previous posts, I think these are from Napili, Kapua, & Puakenikeni.

Akaku on you tube 9/13 (&11?)

SC's phone activity
Sunday 2/9/14
9:49 pm text from Hana Hwy (most likely)
11:20 pm text. "
11:23 pm text "

Monday 2/10.
1:53*am North/Home turf
6:53*am. "

5:16 pm text likely Hana Hwy
5:19**pm text. "
5:49**PM text "

(It appears that SC did go back to clean up on Monday)

6:02 pm (dark) to Tue. 2/11, 5:11 am likely back home

Tuesday 2/11(cont.)
!! 5:47 pm to 6:35 PM = 12-15 voice call attempts from SC to CS*** (no connection) 3G and 2G then 3G - 2G more towards Hana.(Pua)

!!It appears that SC's phone selected a particular, 2G, tower sector, 2054, on Feb. 1, 9, 10, 11, and 12. [East: Hana Road: Nua-(Paraquats), Hana, Nahiku, ...]
Less than 1% of SC's cell activities had occurred on that tower.

*At 1:53 AM and 6:53 AM on Mon 2/10, he was back to his regular tower sector, 22056. [ North--home turf: Haiku/SC home, Scott's?; Paia/work; Macawao/Charlie's, Kaiser's...]

**At 5:19 PM and 5:49 PM on Mon 2/10, SC's phone is again using the 2G tower sector 2054.(Kapua)"

"The 2G tower choice is pretty much a lock on him being out Hana Highway (not Haiku), because the phone will always pick 3G if it can, which it can on the west side of Haleakala. But he says it with a caveat anyway. "

There's the fact that SC was seen in Hana in Charli's 4-Runner between 9:30 & 11:30, so the back-way explanation explains that.

There's a quote from Mr. Easter that says Steven was back in his home territory at 11:20 PM on Sunday, which implies that he was within his normal Haiku/Upcountry reception area at that time (maybe around Ulupalakua or something? If we accept that he took the back-way...).

And then poster Alohaj posted that his source told him that Easter had said or strongly implied that Steven had taken the back way around the island. Maybe due to the length of a certain "radio silence" in his reception activity, or a certain patter which would match the back-way journey round the island? (just guessing about that, really).

Ok now I am not convinced that what the person who worked there answered me correctly. I thought I have gotten gas there after hours. I just assumed I was wrong quite easily. Nice catch Kapua. Im always miffed when I see a station that has pumps but doesn't let you do it after hours with a CC. I should go up to Hanazawa's right now and see if they do.

I'll let the Hana police know they are wrong and they CAN gas up after hours. I'm sure they'll be glad to know!

It is definitely huge. I have not had an opportunity to listen to all of the testimony on YouTube yet, but I will be listening for that when I have time. I tried to multi-task it in with work, but you really need to pay attention.
I think it's all in this segment:

I was thinking that SC would not have cell reception at Nua'ailua, so that 9:49 text represents the first text msg. that he received when he was back in range of the tower - presumably approaching Hana. Jennifer Taylor's time window of 9:30 - 11:30 in her eyewitness account is spot on.

Well I did watch Wednesday's testimony yesterday and learn which side of the skirt was ripped. I saw her bra and his hooded sweatshirt too. I started having a panic attack when they showed a closeup of the skirt. Not sure why, I'm not easily frightened but something about those huge holes in her belly area made it hard for me to breathe. That m-uthaf---er stabbed her in the back! He was brutal and ruthless and stabbed her and the baby over 40 times. I tried counting holes.

And he wasted no time. Charli and Joshua were gone before 9:49, when he received that text message.:(

Crucifixion would be too good for him. What day are we on now? Looking at his images on Google he exhibits so much contempt for this process. For a guy who thinks he is better than the rest of us with himself he is going to unhappy spending the rest of his days in prison.
