That was me. The officer speaks about it on the stand here at 28:40

He says he took the small Ace Rewards card to Ace, scanned it, but nothing came up and they did nothing else. :-(

:jawdrop: They did nothing else? OMG.

I haven't watched the whole footage of the officer's testimony, but from what I could gather, it ended there with the person swiping the card and....that was it. I hope I'm wrong.

On another note, does anyone know what this piece of evidence could be? The prosecutor accidentally flashed this item onto the flatscreen TV in the courtroom for a millisecond, and I captured it and did a screenshot. What the heck is it? I think the yellow scale on the right is in inches, the white small scale on the left is in cm. I don't think it's a bone...is it?

I'm sure the first days were an overwhelming nightmare for her family. A spinning, unfocused, overwhelming nightmare.
Kim reported her missing late Monday night after doing normal due diligence through out the day.
Who would have thought the outcome of not hearing from her would be this.
The first initial search was with the thought process that she ran off the road. No one would have thought of searching a deserted, dark, dirt road.
I applaud her family and friends for organizing quickly once reality set in and the storm they became.
Thank God the officer dropped his sunglasses, because who would have thought to look for fingernails in a massive jungle.
Divine intervention several times in this case.

But not when it was crucial; DI was glaringly absent when Charli and Joshua were slaughtered.

And who was the mechanic from Peahi that tipped off Christopher Fanelli and his friend that her truck was at Jaws for scavenging?
Doesn't matter? Does matter?

Matters if that person has information about when he called CF. The only information we have about the arson is that two witnesses smelled smoke Sunday night. Clearly, parts were removed between Sunday night and Wednesday afternoon. I think the prosecution should try to narrow that down. I guess they didn't find anything noteworthy in the car or on the doors. But Brooke was crying over a backpack... we never heard anything more about that either...

Yes, I saw the testimony and that was the extent of the response. That the card swiping by an employee led nowhere. Also, I believe that's an upside down picture of the tree with the cut marks and hair found near the jawbones and fingernails. It was cut down for evidence and I think thats a picture of it after it dried out. It was a very skinny, young tree.

Ladies, I'm sorry but can we please have a moratorium on initials in Charli's thread? Outside of SC (Steven Capobianco) and a few others that we've used regularly, it's terribly confusing! I just ran back over posts looking for testimony from a DI (Divine Intervention).

Thanks in advance!

Thank you, you are correct! I couldn't see it, but it is the trunk of the sapling that was shown at the crime scene with blade marks in it.

tree cut marks.jpg

I've been examining those cut marks in the young tree and I remember the forensic pathologist referred to the incision marks in Charli's jawbone at one point as "chop marks," so I now believe that SC was not simply "stabbing her" with a small knife, but was chopping & stabbing at her lower face/neck with a machete (which are very common on the island). I think it's likely that SC got the small belt-knife he was reported to wear for protection after the crime i.e. after he became public enemy #1 on the island - but did not use it for his attack on Charli. But who knows...

I'm sure the first days were a crazy emotional scary time, I can't imagine fully. But the family did know at least who to suspect right away and who to not trust. In the article linked above by Nikki Lisette (http://www.mauinews.com/page/conten...ays-Capobianco-s-tone-was-odd.html?nav=5161): "At that time, when Phaedra and I were talking to the officer, we were literally hashing out where she might be," Scott said. "One of the things we agreed to was that Charli not telling us where she had gone was abnormal. The only person she would not want to tell us about seeing would be Steven."Scott said she and Wais didn't go to the cellphone ping location that night because she agreed with the officer's advice that "I shouldn't put my daughter and myself at risk going out so late to a remote area."

No one suspected murder yet, just a missing person who may have run off the road. I disagree that no one would have thought of searching a deserted, dark dirt road where her cell last pinged and hadn't pinged since in 24 hours. That would be my first thought to go check that spot if I knew MPD wasn't going to that night. And then call MPD from there if an emergency is found. If someone got into an accident and is injured, every minute and hour counts to get to rescue them for risk of blood loss, dehydration or starvation. Indeed, her family and friends are the only reason the MPD knew where to look when they finally got around to it, and the reason this has progressed is because of their love and diligence, and some divine intervention too

I didn't get to watch any of the stream today, so I am catching up now with part 1 of today's testimony on YouTube. Officer James Taylor is on the stand.

Will you share the link please? I'm having trouble finding it.

They did nothing else? OMG.
Just a thought on the small ACE card, of which I have had several over the years. They give out the big and small cards as blanks sometimes/often, and up to customer to join the Rewards program. If it is a blank, or the info on the card was destroyed by the weather, then it can't come up with anything when scanned. If the card has been linked to some active Rewards membership, it will return the customer info when scanned (unless it has been wiped out for whatever reason). Once it is linked, the small card is supposed to go on your keychain, and the big one in your wallet. If the small one is loose and does not scan, then maybe it is just a blank that was given out with purchase. There is no way to link a blank card with the purchase, because it's a generic piece of plastic.

Officer Taylor searched the stream bed and Nua'ailua Bay and found another piece of bone on March 8 around 5 PM.

Oh no! Rivera is beginning to use the phrase, "Would it be fair to say...."

There are too many Taylors in this case: Taylor Farner, Jennifer Taylor, Officer Taylor, and now the dental forensic witness, Dr. Taylor.

I'm also watching the James Boyd police shooting trial and the defense says 'You would agree with me' before every single question. Its actually making my brain hurt! :tantrum:

Regarding why the family didn't go to Nua'ailua/Paraquat's on Monday night, remember at that time they were looking for her vehicle that had gone off the road (they thought this was the potentially bad scenario). And it's fairly impossible to see anything out that road at night. And I think I would tend to mistrust the exactitude of the app, given how Google Maps messes (also satellite) is frequently messing up here, at least on my island. The exact location in the middle of a jungle valley a way off of the road made no sense. And they had no clue at all Monday night that she would go out Hana Highway. In fact, they had reason to think she would not.

So on Tuesday, they now have a reason to look out Hana Highway after talking to SC at Mana Foods, BUT he has told them of a spot past Keanae. And again they are looking for her vehicle having maybe gone off the highway, which is a lot of real estate to search just right off of this highway over the edge. And Maui Search and Rescue was not previously organized; this was the beginning.

And then Wednesday, there was Nala in Nahiku. So off they went.
Then Thursday, the 4Runner has been found near Jaws. Another lead.
I imagine Kim was out of her mind with worry by that time, and then all the work of encouraging people to please come out and search.
Phaedra -- it's somehow not surprising that it's the youngest person out there who believes in the phone app enough to pursue it. The older people maybe aren't as convinced that "high tech" is going to have the answer. (I am old, and I happen to love my iPhone, so I'm not saying it's totally generational, but still it was the teenager who fixated on the Life 360 app.)

Was the app on her or her mom Kim's phone? Do we even know when Phaedra actually checked that app?
Let's say Phaedra checked it Monday after school and it showed that area. Wouldn't it still show that same area Monday late night or Tuesday for example if that when she looked?
Also the app did not give an address, it showed a general area of the jungle.
I too would like to say what I would have or would not have done those first few days, but that dangerous territory.
