Newly released court documents said the struggle started when Arielle Konig refused to take a selfie near the edge.
She said he struck her with a rock 10 times on the head, grabbed her hair, and smashed her face into the ground.
When another hiker arrived at the trail, Arielle Konig told her, “He’s trying to kill me. He’s hitting me in the head with a rock.”
She also told police he tried to inject her with an unknown liquid.
Another case that resulted in charges (as well as a couple of Datelines, and a 48 Hours): Frederick and Leslie Mueller. Husband accused of pushing wife off cliff into a creek near their Colorado vacation home. Two hung juries. No third trial, so he walked.

Why in the world would anyone offer to help contractors in a potentially dangerous way? (And why would contractors think that's okay...)
I agree - GK could claim behavioral effects of a brain injury, but defense would have to show it affected more than just his attitude toward his wife. IMHO he's having an affair and didn't want to take the financial hit.
An Oahu grand jury issued a bench warrant Friday to have a 46-year-old Maui anesthesiologist held without bail after indicting him for the alleged attempted murder of his wife, Arielle Konig, on the Pali Puka Trail on Monday.
It is. And the crazy thing to me, is that these "falling while hiking" scenarios are obviously premeditated, the perpetrator spends time planning the "fall", why not just get divorced? Walk out and leave. Certainly better than years incarcerated.

Because this kind of murder is about control and narcissism. They want an end, but they don't want their ex to go on and have a life without them, and they certainly don't want to divide assets or custody.
They just want their partner to no longer exist, and preferably cease to exist in such a way that gives them maximum monetary benefit and maximum social currency. A tragic widower gets far more cred and sympathy than a divorcee who's having to move into an apartment and pay child support.
Who is he, thinking it's acceptable to take his 3- and 4-year old's mother away from them forever? And what about her - he thinks her life doesn't matter, just because she --or he -- wants to leave?
I would still like to know what was in the syringes. And if he still had them on his person when he was arrested later that day. Has the hospital where he worked been able to account for any missing drugs & that might give a clue to what was in the syringes?

"They just want their partner to no longer exist, and preferably cease to exist in such a way that gives them maximum monetary benefit and maximum social currency." bbm
I could repeat that a couple more times, but I'll stop right here.

The victim has filed a restraining order against Konig. The following article has taken key information from that filing, and I have summarized it below. There is A LOT of insightful information in the article, especially #6! As a reminder, this is all from the perspective of the victim for the purposes of a restraining order.
1, The marriage had become strained recently, and Konig was showing signs of “extreme jealousy” and “has attempted to control and monitor all of [the victim’s] communications.”
2. The husband planned the weekend getaway without the kids and suggested the hiking the trail on which the incident occurred.
3. When the trail started showing “narrow ridge sections with steep drop-offs on both sides,” the victim asked not to go any further.
4. Konig then suggested they take a selfie at the edge of the cliff, but the victim was again uncomfortable and moved away. Konig then attacked her “yelling something to the effect of, ‘Get back over there, I’m so [expletive] sick of you.’” She thought he was joking, then “quickly realized he was seriously trying to make me fall off the cliff.”
5. During the attack, Konig pulled out a syringe and vial from his bag and tried to inject the victim. “I do not know what was in the syringe, but Gerhardt is an anesthesiologist and has access to several potentially lethal medications as part of his employment.”
6. The victim said she learned that Konig had called one of his adult children via FaceTime. He was allegedly covered in blood and said, “I just tried to kill [AK] but she got away,”
A week after a former University of Pittsburgh professor and UPMC anesthesiologist allegedly attacked his wife along a scenic overlook during a trip to...
