HI - Dr. Gerhardt Konig, 46, Allegedly pushed wife off trail, hit her in head with a rock, Pali Lookout, Oahu, 24 March 2025 *Arrest*

“His wife, a nuclear engineer who spent more than a decade at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh before the couple moved to Hawaii, told the story in her own words” Nothing but respect for this smart lady whose quick thinking and willingness to heed her own feelings of discomfort and fear likely saved her life.

The victim has filed a restraining order against Konig. The following article has taken key information from that filing, and I have summarized it below. There is A LOT of insightful information in the article, especially #6! As a reminder, this is all from the perspective of the victim for the purposes of a restraining order.

1, The marriage had become strained recently, and Konig was showing signs of “extreme jealousy” and “has attempted to control and monitor all of [the victim’s] communications.”

2. The husband planned the weekend getaway without the kids and suggested the hiking the trail on which the incident occurred.

3. When the trail started showing “narrow ridge sections with steep drop-offs on both sides,” the victim asked not to go any further.

4. Konig then suggested they take a selfie at the edge of the cliff, but the victim was again uncomfortable and moved away. Konig then attacked her “yelling something to the effect of, ‘Get back over there, I’m so [expletive] sick of you.’” She thought he was joking, then “quickly realized he was seriously trying to make me fall off the cliff.”

5. During the attack, Konig pulled out a syringe and vial from his bag and tried to inject the victim. “I do not know what was in the syringe, but Gerhardt is an anesthesiologist and has access to several potentially lethal medications as part of his employment.”

6. The victim said she learned that Konig had called one of his adult children via FaceTime. He was allegedly covered in blood and said, “I just tried to kill [AK] but she got away,”

Just wow.

The article also mentioned that the trip was a weekend getaway for *her* birthday (that he planned). Just that extra layer of cruelty...

I don't think his jealous rage came out of the blue. I wonder how much he may have been secretly going through her things and gaslighting her during their years together? (Imo.)

I wonder if she can file for an expedited divorce? She may not be thinking of it, but she needs to draft a new will and power of attorney documents asap. (Because he may make bail and/or try to do something even from jail -- thinking of James Craig, the CO dentist who has tried to have witnesses and investigators bumped off while he sits in jail.)

I wonder if defense will say he needs a mental evaluation?

I wonder if defense will say he needs a mental evaluation?
I suspect this is going to be an angle the defense explores, especially after his alleged “head trauma” resulting from the 2019 contractor incident linked below that was referenced upthread.

I also was struck by the fact that after fleeing the scene of his assault on his wife, GK FaceTimed one of his adult children (from the marriage that preceded his current marriage to AK) to report that he’d “just tried to kill Ari but she got away.” That’s just chilling. If he is tried for the second-degree attempted murder charge, I wonder if a jury will see this call as proof that he was not thinking clearly/was delusional at the time of the crime or as evidence that he despised his wife to such a degree that it didn’t occur to him that his children/her stepchildren would care all that much if she was murdered. I am glad that the poor child who received that call shared the substance of it with the victim, and hope for peace and healing for them along with AK and her other children and stepchildren.

The doctor accused of trying to murder his wife while on a scenic hike in Hawaii had suspected her of having an affair months earlier and allegedly told his adult son he “tried to kill” her in a phone call after the near-fatal attack, according to reports.

Gerhardt Konig, a 46-year-old anesthesiologist, was charged Wednesday with second-degree attempted murder after he allegedly attacked his wife, Arielle Konig, 36, at the Pali Lookout, a famous panoramic vista on Oahu.

"extreme jealousy" and possibly a superiority complex.
His wife Arielle described as a "renowned nuclear engineer" I wonder whether his jealousy was not only about a perceived affair she was having, which I'm not sure is a certain fact, given they were attempting to save their marriage through counseling (maybe initiated through her)

It's reminding me of a new relationship I had many years ago.....where the guy would get really weird when I kept beating him at chess....to the point of going into a rage once and throwing the board and pieces off the table. Big red flag. I ended that quickly, then he stalked me for a while begging me to see him again. Nope.

“During the hike, I became uneasy and informed Gerhardt that I did not want to continue,” she said. “Gerhardt hiked a little further and then came back to get me.”

She then climbed a tree so that her husband could take a photo of her, while he held her phone and hiking bag. He then suggested taking a photo near the edge of a cliff.

“I asked him to move so that I could move away from the cliff, because I was feeling dizzy,” she said. He moved.

Later, he grabbed her by her upper arms and started pushing her toward the cliff's edge while yelling that he was sick of her, the petition said.

“At first I thought he was joking, but I quickly realized he was seriously trying to make me fall off the cliff,” she said.

They began wrestling and she screamed and pleaded for him to stop, fearing for her life, the petition said.

During the struggle, she said he grabbed his bag and took out a syringe and tried to inject her.

“I do not know what was in the syringe, but Gerhardt is an anesthesiologist and has access to several potentially lethal medications as part of his employment," she said.

She said she bit his arm in an attempt to defend herself.

He then appeared to calm down, but then grabbed a nearby rock and “began bashing me repeatedly on the head with it," she said.

Indicted Hawaii doctor's wife details alleged hiking trail attack in restraining order petition. A restraining order? How about never releasing him , ever? Seems like he was pretty determined to kill her , trying 3 ways...trying to pull her the cliff , bashing her head in with a rock and then syringes. There are 2 small children and a mother to protect here. A restraining order is nothing.. he needs a cell. And even though he FaceTimed his adult son and said he attempted to kill her and said he wanted to jump off a cliff himself, He didn't jump off a cliff and he had 8 hours to find one before he was finally apprehended. it appears he was for killing her not himself or he would have jumped off a cliff. I think his call was the start of damage control , to set in motion that he "wasn't in his right mind". It seems it was premeditated attempted murder, syringes in hand. Wonder about his computer searches. jmo

Terrible. I wonder how someone can get over this type of murder attempt. How could she feel like trusting any partner again? MOO, any mother with a full-time job, and two small children doesn't have the time or energy for an affair.

How terrifying of an ordeal for AK. Glad she survived the attempt against her life and hope she makes a full recovery. Horrific experience knowing your husband tried to murder you. moo

According to the friend, and neighbors, colleagues, other friends ...they were described as friendly, good neighbors, happy etc.
Watch the defense bring all these people as witnesses who never saw any inking of strain or trouble, and that this creep fine renowned and respected doctor must have had some psychotic episode that he was not responsible for.

It doesn’t matter if she was having extramarital relations. The “punishment” for infidelity is counseling or divorce, not death. Further, we know this wasn’t some “heat of the moment” issue, as evidenced by the fact that he brought along two filled syringes. JMO.

I believe we can safely say, she wasn't having an affair. He just wanted to fully control her, including taking her life, so she could never leave him or ask for anything.

He said he was "sick of her," probably sick of her being her own person who he couldn't control.

Rbm.
That (bolded) right there should be enough to lock him away forever.

Guess we will see, though.
Hoping Arielle will stay safe !!!

Agreed.
Premeditated.
He may be sick in his head with evil rage, but he showed evidence of pre-planning and cunning.
Not insane, or at least he'll have a difficult time proving it, imo.
Omo.
