I understand that has already happened. An investigation by the Republican-controlled Senate Homeland Security and Finance Committees shortly before the 2020 presidential election concluded that there was no evidence of improper influence or wrongdoing.
Ukraine is still an American ally, is it not? It might have been a different outcome if they found support there for a Russian overtake of Ukrainian resources.

I prefer criminal investigations be conducted by the Justice Dept rather than politicians.

I do not believe the DOJ is being used as a "political weapon." Even when the plea deal was announced--and then rejected by the Judge--it was very clear to me that the criminal investigation into his finances wasn't over.

I've been kinda avoiding this thread because those folks who decry politcally motivated prosecutions - well, for me, this is such a case. I have aboslutely no problem with any Democrat being held to full account for criminal wrongdoing but this case has always struck me as a conviction in search of a prosecution. There is sometimes such an overcorrection to proclaim or pretend non-bias that itself becomes bias. I believe that's what's happened here. Garland is sensitive to criticism that he's treating one side of the political aisle differently even when doing so is logical, just and reasonable. There's a score of lawyers out there who have stated publicly that people without the last name Biden wouldn't be indicted let alone taken to trial on these charges. JMO and FWIW

Just skimming the report, it has some problematic findings. Just saying. I don't understand why he was ever allowed to continue with work in which there were so many conflicts of interest. I was an active Democrat for over 40 yrs, but I refuse to defend any of this. Was. JMO

The three-count indictment says Hunter Biden lied on a form required for every gun purchase when he bought a .38 Colt Cobra Special at a Wilmington, Delaware, gun shop.
He's charged with two counts of making false statements by checking a box falsely saying he was not addicted to drugs and giving it to the shop for their federally required records. A third count alleges he possessed the gun for about 11 days despite knowing he was a drug user.
