Hurricane Dorian - August/September 2019 #1

In 2017, the maps for Florida and evacuation up through the state and also out of Savannah and out of Charleston were totally red with Google traffic maps. It appears that Savannah and Charleston are starting, but Florida is still green as to traffic.

Airbnb offering free housing to Hurricane Dorian evacuees, relief workers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - If you need to evacuate, but need some help, Uber and Airbnb have programs in place to help.
People can be generous and helpful in tough times....but don't let your guard down. Scammers and perps who prey on others in vulnerable positions are also drawn to these situations. I don't want to be a Debbie Downer! Take help when needed, absolutely! Get out of harm's way! But keep WS wits about you too.

WESH TV Orlando Weather Alert reports
that the WNW turn has begun and will continue throughout the day. Once this is completed it'll
be more clear how far off the coast of Fl. the storm will be.
Although the wind field has enlarged and will
cover more inland areas, the storm is expected
to be downgraded to a Cat 3 as it moves up the coast into Central Fl.

Morning all!

I hope everyone is prepared to evacuate when it's the right, and safest time to leave.

We have been in constant contact with our daughter, son in law, and two little granddaughters who live in Mount Pleasant right outside of Charleston. Their home is very close to the ocean. They are boarding up their 2 story home, and will head down to our area in Georgia sometime today. They dont want to be caught in the bottle neck of trying to get out.

Yesterday here we had two severe thunderstorms with the wind tossing the tall trees back, and forth. A few limbs down. It's probably not due to Dorian, but still makes us nervous.

What is strange our precious little bundle of love, our fur baby, Tuxie, was never afraid of bad weather until hurricane Michael roared through here. Since then every time he hears thunder he wants to be held by me or his daddy. Its amazing how dogs feel the immense pressure on their ears from hurricanes.

Our oldest daughter, and family are also coming inland into Georgia.

Two of our best friends live close to Jekyll Island. They are worried they may lose their home this time if it skirts up the coast.

I am praying for all of my dear fellow posters who may affected. I pray all of you remain safe.

Imo, the worst thing about this monster is it's unpredictably. That alone has to cause so much emotional trauma for it is always the uncertainty of the unknown that is the worst, and causes so much stress, and worry.

Plus this one is so slow moving which is the worst scenario. It's like watching, and waiting for water to boil on the stove.

Remember your WS family is praying for you all, and deeply cares about your safety, and your families, friends, and fur babies.

I know when Michael was happening to us last year by following, and posting with my WS family it kept me grounded.

So make sure you all keep your cell phones charged. It may be your only communication you will have with us, and your loved ones.

Prepare for the worst, and pray for the best outcome.

Warm hugs are going out to all of you. Xxxx

And to you as well @oceanblueeyes.

MSNBC has shown a family home in Freeport, Bahamas.....the water is swirling around their second floor and coming up the stairs. I realized that I was holding my breath. It is so scary. Their plan includes tying everyone together with rope and life jackets. Pray for these folks.

Is it still over the Bahamas?! It's like it is hovering over that place. How exhausting and scary for the people there.

I don’t recall any hurricane in history ever doing that. Anyone?
Irma was painfully slow & ever changing tracks, but this standing still for TWO DAYS- don’t know what to make of it!

I will say though- if it ain’t movin’- I ain’t movin! Made reservations, but won’t exit until it’s clearly the safe thing to do. 400 miles away endlessly churning will not inspire me to pack the car!

I just heard it's moving at 1 mph!! That's slower than a slow walk.

The Braves extended an invitation Monday to anyone who has evacuated to Atlanta due to mandatory evacuations in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian to be their guests for 1 of 2 games this week.

The Braves will offer complimentary tickets to all residents of coastal Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina who have been displaced due to mandatory evacuations.

NASCAR’s Charlotte Motor Speedway announced Monday that evacuees seeking shelter from Hurricane Dorian are welcome to hunker down at the popular track north of Charlotte.

The Rock City Campground and bathhouse facilities at the track are being made available at no cost to people trying to outrun the Category 4 hurricane, speedway spokesman Scott Cooper said.

Afternoon model trends for #Dorian:

Not much change, with a track just offshore of Florida continuing to be the most likely outcome, with the threat of a landfall in the Carolinas.

Still ~48 hours (2 days) of wobble-watching left. A more direct impact on FL cannot be ruled out. Levi Cowan on Twitter

Here’s our go-to weather guy in NJ

https://www.weathernj.com/sept-2-dorian-to-impact-entire-us-east-coast/

“After Florida Dorian is now expected to ride the entire SE US and Mid-Atlantic US coast through coastal Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina (OBX) as the system weakens from a major hurricane to a weaker category 1 hurricane. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hurricane able to touch so much of the east coast. Dorian should impact Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina from Wednesday PM to Friday AM.”

“The final area of concern is the Delmarva Peninsula and New Jersey for Friday. This has not changed since my discussion yesterday. Therefore I expect heavy rains, moderate winds (sustained 20-40mph with gusts to 60+mph) and minor-to-moderate coastal flooding on Friday for Delmarva, and SENJ.”

“ Amazing to think that a storm system can wreak so much havoc from Florida to Maine.”
