South Carolina’s governor has ordered a mandatory evacuation of his state’s entire coast as Hurricane Dorian threatens.

Gov. Henry McMaster’s order goes into effect at noon Monday, when state troopers will begin reversing lanes so that people can all head inland on major coastal highways.

The order covers nearly 1 million people, many of whom are evacuating for the fourth time in four years.

Gotta hand it to FL for reducing financial stresses in emergency: waiving tolls, chipping pets, app to report rate hike fraud, free water, free sand... Class act preparedness imo. Hats off!

The American Red Cross provides free classes, continuously, for "Emergency Preparedness Training". My daughter and I became certified in all sorts of things, from "Shelter Management" to "Evacuation of Disabled". We both received EMT certification. Lots of simulations with various agencies, and coordinating.

You sign up to be a volunteer, and they provide classes and training activities. That way, you can actually be competent as a Red Cross volunteer, knowing what is expected.

On Saturday night in Columbia County, hundreds of trucks were lined up at the fairgrounds, ready to roll out at a moments notice. Crews were waiting to hear exactly where they'll end up as the storm's track remains in question.

"The more saturated it gets, it's going to knock over more of the powerlines and trees," said Charles Sampson, a lineworker.

Linemen from 34 different states and Canada are in Columbia County staging for what’s to come. Linemen have one of the most dangerous jobs during and after a storm.

Yeah, we know “how to hurricane” pretty well. My friends and I tend to look out for those new to the area. For example, about 6 years ago a professional colleague moved here from Chicago. We helped her understand and taught her what/how to prep. She had no idea. My aunt and uncle from NH just bought a mobile home near Melbourne, FL in Feb. They went back to NH for the summer. I asked them, who is putting up their hurricane shutters? They responded, we don’t have any. Yikes! I hope they have a place to come back to!!!

They might get lucky and end up with an oceanfront property if their dwelling moves ;)

No link but Fl, Georgia, SC and NC are not going to tolerate looting.
All potential loser looters better beware.

Well, I'm on the state line of NC and VA. Outer Banks is just down the road from me. My family in the DC area are asking me to leave and come up there. Will wait to decide further in the week.

Our daughter is at UNC-Wilmington for her first year. They are making a decision Monday at noon about the rest of the week. They were hit hard last year so I imagine they won't take a chance.
