Looks like this is going to be one of those that they won't know where it is really doing until the last minute - thus, no time for evacuation....... I am really sick of this crap!

My son is moving from Orlando to Sarasota on 8-31. I believe from the way the cone looked in Pharlap's post it would come in north of Tampa Bay. He may have to change his plans. Aren't you in Tampa Poco?

If the Big E is a Cat 3, it would be about that strong.

Opal came directly through our county in 1995 here in AL as a CAT-2. Our neighborhood looked like a war zone and we were without power for 6 days.

See where the "1" is over GA?? We live just to the west of that "1", right on the AL/GA line.

Oh, Sh**!!!! This is looking like another Opal.
Well now I know where you live, so I can come visit sometime!

Better say some of our Catholic prayers today.

Why would they cancel tomorrow, unless it is to facilitate evacuations?

When the winds reach over 30MPH the school busses cannot go over the bridges.
They are already predicting a probable TS or hurricane watch for the Keys later today.

"A tropical storm or Hurricane Watch may be required for portions of
the Florida Keys later today."

englishleigh, when Wilma hit us last Oct,we were without power for Twelve Days--It was the strongest hurricane to hit PalmBeach county in 60 years--Winds gusted over 100 mph--an incredible experience--it was an actual "whiteout'--there were times when the wind sounded like Jet Engines--the sound was almost Ungodly--the power of nature

Oh, wow, I didn't know that. I'd think it would usually be rather breezy there, with 30mph gusts not out of the question. But maybe not.
