Well, it looks like we're going to dodge the bullet. Everybody gets a day off. LOL I think I'll clean since the power will probably go off. Hmm, this is the best kind of weather to have a hurricane party. LOL Maybe we'll do that
Lake Okeechobee is always a big concern. The counties to the south of us really would be affected. Most of the counties like Martin, Palm Beach and Okeechobee flood under normal thunderstorm rains.

However I will repeat myself, they did say tonight there looking at 2 (not 1, :doh: which i said before) different waves that are coming this way. 10 days or so.

Peter, I lived in Miami almost all my life. I remember many hurricanes. We always boarded up. Dad made shutters out of corragated aluminum to fit all our windows. We filled the bathtub and had sterno stoves and plenty of canned food. We were thankful if it didn't happen, but were always prepared for the worst. Since my mother and her parents lived here from 1913, they knew the drill. I remember when hurricane David was about to hit. We lived then about 2 blocks from the bay. They recounted that Agnes had them under 5 feet of water. With the neep tides of the fall and the storm surge expected, we evacutated to my parent's house. We prepared and took valuables with us. Well, it didn't happen as David made an abrupt turn north within a few miles of Miami. I woke up with no hurricane and was really thankful.

Egg on faces? I wouldn't classify it as that. You really can't predict how a storm will pan out, but just be thankful that damage will be minimal. You just prepare and hope that you have done enough. I don't understand why people don't stock up and save their supplies at the beginning of the season. Why don't they take time and make their shutters out of plywood or aluminum and store them for the next storm? Get those gallon bottles of water ready. Buy a sterno stove and canned fuel and save those canned goods for the storm emergencies. The last storm I lived through was Andrew. I took care of my mother's house and she was without power for over a month. She wasn't even in the worst area. I had to buy a generator to keep her going. In that case, it was the worse case senario. We survived.

Those of you in the path of storms, just prepare. If you find it missed you, then thank God and breathe easier. But know your prepared for the worst. One day, it will be the worst and you will be thankful you prepared.

Hmmmmmmmm. Its 1:30 a.m. here and the wind is not blowing and its still not raining. Its so nice to know I'll get a good nights sleep compared to the way this could have been.

So, it's died down? Last night we had really bad rain, thunder and lightening. I woke up because of all the noise and was thinking NC is so different from CA. It rained there sometimes, but not like here, and we hardly ever got thunder or lightening. According to weatherbug we have flash flood warnings tonight which scares me because we live near the river. Our house is far enough away, but only by a main road and some houses. I have class tonight and will have to drive, so I'm not happy. Maybe class we be cancelled.

I don't know where they got the notion that Earnesto had 40 mph winds but I certainly did not see any wind.

Exactly what my daughters were saying. Still no school in Palm Beach County today, as the schools were set to be places for ones who had to evacuate from the outer islands.

We also had our shutters put up. I guess it is better to be safe than sorry. At this point, we are going to leave them on, unless we are forced to remove them. Tis the Season!

LOL I didn't know the 'hurricane' posting was going on over here, as I was in the parking lot. LOL Live and learn :doh:

First thing this morning my son took the shutters down.


It was just dark and gloomy in the house with them up. We did leave them by the applicable windows so they are ready to go up again if needed.

Truth be told it seemed windier today then it ever got yesterday.

Amraann, that is what my daughters say, dark and gloomy, no light at all. Except when the power goes, they keep a door open now and then, as it becomes unbearable. My youngest daughter bought a generator this year.

I'm not there, so leaving them up is OK with me, until I am threatened that I have to have them removed. My daughter is also marking them for me this year, so that will be a great help---for whoever has to put them up again. I'm looking into the 'sliders' soon!


Gee I pray, this isn't going to be a repeat of last year or the year before that one. :angel:

It looks like its coming my way. We got bad rain here last night, with flooding in the roads. They even cancelled school today. The Coast Guard is flying the planes out to a safer place just in case it gets bad.

They broadcasted from Tybee Island on Fox this morning. Storm was offshore there. I thought about our Tybee.

It rained some last night and drizzly today but thats about it. Surfers are enjoying the waves today. I went down to the beach earlier to check it out but there was just enough wind to kick up the sand and I didnt feel like getting sand blasted so came back home.

The watch, stretching from South Carolina's Santee River to Cape Lookout in North Carolina, means hurricane conditions, with sustained winds of at least 74 mph, were possible within 12 hours.
