Hurricane Florence - September 2018

  • #481
My son and family got out of Raleigh this morning when the direction from yesterday was pointing towards them after hitting land at Wrightsville Beach/Wilmington, NC.

They have a beautiful home at Wrightsville Beach. It is one row off the ocean but the inlet is behind their house. The house is built up on stilts, as I like to say, but from what is predicted, we are in a “wait and see”. Houses can be repaired, lives cannot be if this storm is what is forecasted.

Prayers for everyone that is in any path that could be affected.

Dear 1&2&3,

I am so glad to hear that your son and family have evacuated. I cannot imagine how that feels, only that it is a life-saving decision. A person must feel so torn to leave. Just heart-tugging.

You must be so greatly relieved that they are in a safe place now.

Your words genuinely sum up this situation:
"Houses can be repaired, lives cannot be if this storm is what is forecasted."

I join with you in praying for everyone who is and will be affected by this hurricane and its aftermath.

Namaste,
Zen

You'll need to stack a couple of these around the house:

Dear Jewels53,

What an ominous photo!

The sky looks so frightening, foreshadowing what's to come.

That is the coolest thing I have ever seen in a long time. Wonder what is inside the tube. I dont see how it can be just air because wouldnt water make it float upwards if just air inside?

Maybe it is anchored to the ground really good. If it is anchored then air would probably work.

Just amazing. I like it. It does make you wonder if the water got higher about 1/2 way up it would it still do so well. EIther way it is better than nothing and I really like this thingamabob. :)

Aqua Dam is a unique, patented idea, that uses water filled tubes to create aqua barriers and control water to prevent flooding. Aqua Dam was originally designed as a method for blocking of streams for pipeline crossings.

Sorry to reply to my own post but i think i figured out what is inside the tube and it makes it even more amazing.

I bet water is inside the tubes. Its called "Aquadam" and it makes total sense if water is used to fill the tubes because "Aqua" means water. Im even more amazed now because how ironic to use water to help save houses from water flooding.

Using water against itself to help them. Totally floored by this and its brilliant idea. And it works. WOW

ETA. This link confirms that water is used to fill the tubes.

I saw it for the first time during Irma. Here's a news story about a homeowner who set it up:

Not slow for me at the moment, but that does happen to me on WS from time to time.

My computer is slow loading pages as well at times.

I guess that has more to do with using my good old Commodore 64 !
