Weather Channel Defends Reporter Who Seemingly Exaggerated Wind Gusts During Live Report

The Weather Channel put out a statement defending Seidel, who was seemingly exaggerating the effects of the wind.

“It’s important to note that the two individuals in the background are walking on concrete, and Mike Seidel is trying to maintain his footing on wet grass, after reporting on-air until 1:00 a.m. ET this morning and is undoubtedly exhausted,” the statement read.

Update for Wilmington- We checked our home this morning. It's about a 15 minute drive from my grandmother's. Several traffic lights were out along the way. 4-way intersections were particularly scary since all 4 directions are yielding to traffic. There was a surprising amount of vehicles out. Our home still has no power, but might turn on sometime tonight.

All Harris Teeters are open, Home Depot, and Walmart as well (not sure if all locations are for those). Surprisingly Waffle House was the first to re-open during harsh weather (from my families account of driving by it was packed). Michaelangleos and I think McDonald's is open as well (my sister went there yesterday). My mother's church had a free lunch for all with catered food. They supplied water bottles, food plates, and snacks.

My mom was unable to drive through downtown Wilmington this morning. She said it was back to back traffic to a gas station on Dawson. People were lined up and some had gas cans. Power outages were at random. Three blocks the street lights worked and then randomly two blocks were out. They talked about shutting the water off yesterday but haven't yet. People that evacuated won't be able to return for a while since they blocked off certain highways. My dad and his wife are stuck in Florida and a family friend is stuck in Georgia. My dad is staying with his step-son which is easier on the wallet, but our family friend is staying in a hotel and the worry of running out of money is high.

My place of employment tried to open today but couldn't get enough employees to work. I might work tomorrow if I can even get there. It's in a neighboring town across a bridge. I have yet to know if it is blocked off.

We went to Harris Teeter yesterday for food and people were lined up out the door. They were allowing one group in at a time and letting another in as soon as another group left. It was an insane experience! Shelves were empty. The emptiest were the snack aisle and the beer fridge was empty except for a couple of cases.

I'm on my mother's phone since my data isn't working on my phone. She uses Verison and I use Cricket. Verizon is extending data for their customers (according to my mom). Since I'm my datas down I haven't been able to check-in as often.

Thank you for the update...hope your power is restored tonight! It makes a world of difference.

Yes, trying to get back to sort-of normal after a huge storm certainly has it's challenges. We went through it with Charley (and the two that followed). Our area was pretty devastated. Things will get better...I promise. Hang in there...just glad you are ok
