There is basically a nothing that is going to go over S Fl next 48 hours.

Hurricanes need at least 80 degrees

Water temps in Gulf are coming in at 86 87 - that's hot!!

Wind Shear right now will impede too much growth for next 48 hrs

Late Mon night / Tuesday --80% chance of development

This ain't good.

It's so strange, I feel for all of you in the path of hurricanes. Even so, by the time they get up north, they aren't usually terribly dangerous. I admit that I enjoy a good storm, then I feel guilty because of the pain it brings to other people. Is there any way to win?

Stay safe if you can.

Tropical storm watch issued as Gordon is expected to form soon off Florida's coast

“Potential Tropical Cyclone Seven [aka Gordon] will bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to portions of the Bahamas, South Florida and the Florida Keys tonight and Monday, and interests in those area should monitor the progress of this system,” the Hurricane Center said in an evening advisory. “Interests in the Florida Keys and the Southern Florida peninsula should monitor the progress of this system.”

The higher the eye the meaner. Wind shear tears em up! For this one now lower level wind will impact it more.

At this point wind shear being present is important in that it greatly influences what might happen next.

So I wanted to see what is happening - hey there is some going on !

Steering currents are just that ! Railroad track. Don't look at the lines! Think of the eye or in this case center of cirmculation as a hot air balloon and it will in between when the look more like a track .

If it is not a track like current the balloon will go either to left or right of the line.
if that makes any sense once whatsoever!

Expect the unexpected. In Australia we have had numerous bushfires in the dead of winter. Never heard of before.

Actually (sadly!) we are entering the most active month of the year. Many think June July that is because the media gets all hysterical about the start of the season

June Nov - so there is more awareness then and makes folks generally think those are the most active! Its actually inverse ! Do it backwards starting in Sept (being the most hurricanes) and June being the least of the season !

Oct has more than June or July!

Mid Sept generally is the worst

Off top of head seriously notable Sept hurricanes of the past

Ivan- he was a bad boy - he landfalled on a lot of oceanfront coastline

Labor Day Hurricane - cat 5 (before they started naming them). In the 30's - there was no forecasting that mattered. They were clueless that a monster was coming and came and did very bad things

Dennis I remember watching him intently

Ike was not a friendly Sept event!

Miss Rita - lazy gal just stalled out and destroyed

and our friend (!)not Irma was a Sept deal

TCFAQ E17) How many hurricanes have there been in each month?

Good morning WS weather watchers......I am so happy to see you here.
I know this is a tropical storm, but I am under the spaghetti this morning. Will be moving fly away items into the garage. Already have water, gas tank is full (not that I am going anywhere), and pray that we do not lose electricity. Lets keep in touch.....

I believe I received this site from a WS weather person the last time we were here talking about hurricanes, and I have kept it on my toolbar.
My daughter and sil have been driving from Florida today, and they are almost home.....some rain and lots of traffic I hear.
See you later.

My son and his wife are over on the Texas coast by Louisiana. Last year their apt complex was basically an island surrounded by water for 2 weeks. I hope they leave this time. It needs to stop raining. Rainiest summer ever here in the South
We are water logged already
