@FEMA These generators are an example of some of the supplies being loaded-up and pre-positioned, should they be needed by the state. #Harvey

They said these are going to San Antonio, I believe. Or close to San Antonio.

and if you are seriously considering condom's I suggest Magnum's as they hold more water......I suppose

That made me laugh out loud.... great motto for a commercial LOL

 thanks for laugh. I'm sure some tension reduction is needed right now.

Kinda think there is a bit of media hype going on here

Will some areas flood yeh, coastal stuff yeh

Know the safe better than sorry stuff

you would not believe how many times after Charley they went hysterical -- evac millions and no where near what all the drama is

His eye is really perfect now tho

well see

There all different , Frances stalled over us forever , no big deal except in rained

New Orleans tho depending on landfall might have some bad flooding nothing Katraina- Katrina was caused Army Corp of Engineers and contractors were crooked and did not build the areas where there collapsed to spec -- at all .

Miss Katrina was gone well hell started!

poor New Orleans

The outer swirls of Harvey are hitting Huntsville, Texas now. That's about 50 miles south of me! Somebody just brought a weather person standing out on the beach in Galveston a 6-pack of Galveston beer! lol! The waves are HUGE. It looks rough!

Pressure -

Dropping building / stronger

10 o'clock 947

2 943 max now 120 mph at certain places within storm itself

and hey just as a mother nature entity they are amazing water moving machines

loved learning all about em how they work!

this close to landfall they are going out every 4 hours and they drop these things that basically look like what you put your bank deposit in at a drive thru!

a parachute comes out and as they go down they transmit back to the plane all sorts of data!

There old prop planes - jet could not handle all the bouncing around jet engines would flame out and quit and that wont be all that good would it!

I have been watching all of the hurricane updates on Fox today and as the day goes on it is getting much worse even now, and it hasn't even made landfall yet.

My heart and prayers are with all of you that may be in the path of this monster storm.

This is what happened to us in 1994 when Alberto came inland in Georgia and stayed there spinning for days pouring down a huge amount of rain non-stop. It caused us to have a 500 year flood, and it took over a decade for some areas to recover. I pray this does not happen in TX and LA.

God be with you all.

Interesting interview on CNN about problems with preparation. Trump says FEMA is shipping generators to Texas, but without an emergency declaration, local cities and towns have to pay for the generators and may not accept them. If emergency is declared, the assistance is covered by the federal government. Not a problem for big cities, but smaller towns can't afford to pay out of pocket for the supplies FEMA may be shipping to them. Why not just declare an emergency? It can be cancelled later if not needed.

Governor declared about 17 (or was it 30???) counties disaster areas yesterday - Texas national guard have around 700 personnel mustered and will deploy (they may already have) shortly to Corpus Christi and surrounding, The emergency declaration may be necessary, but I expect will be forthcoming if needed. Frankly the worst of this hasn't even begun so it may be premature and would put those assets in harm's way. I expected they are in ready mode...

...on a lighter note, my husband just went out to the mailbox to check to see if the mail had come - you know, to our house, here in Corpus Christi, during a HURRICANE. Honestly...

About 150 - 200 miles. Thanks Cariis! So glad to have you here checking on us Texans! I consider you our resident expert regarding hurricanes. I followed the Hurricane Matthew thread last year and thoroughly enjoyed reading everything you posted.

No rain here yet. A little bit of a breeze. Hot as is normal. Overcast gray sky. Pretty quiet. The birds aren't singing like they normally are when I step outside.

I'm getting a bit nervous thinking of what is to come. Be safe everyone! Check in when you can. Lots of great advice from members who have lived through these storms! Learned a lot from Hurricane Matthew last year. Love you all!

TY that is kind. Sometimes I am afraid it appears as if I am trying to be like a amarty pants or something

But just like aviation - hurricanes have been a fascinating thing (as it relates to how they work) and when they are futher out the spaghetti models (that is what they are called- not my fault ha ) are really neat to see how they change and stuff) They predict landfall.

And believe me some of em are nuts-- far out like Charlie was to hit New Zealand ! kidding

it is just sharing a hobby and especially the last 10 years the tv stuff is hysterical generally they were right on Matthew and Sandy but a lot of times ugh

then they wonder why on the 5th time nobody leaves and it ends up being bad

Cry wolf very carefully

during 2004 we were exhausted hurricane fatigue and ya it uproots your life I never had to evacuate but it is exhausing

first Charley man messed up Punta Gorda and her the damage was incredible

then like 2 weeks later miss Frances started -- huge hit cat 5 out in ocean coastal evac like crazy just coming of Charlie

Then Miss jean

INterestingly Frances and Jean actual landfall were like 30 miles apart really close

so thank you for letting me know I am not boring you to the point where some of you go outside stay inside

if the eye comes directly over you go out iff safe (power lines and stuff ) if not open your doors and window and just shhhhhhh listen it is so quiet, but then hold tight when it starts up again from the opposite direction in some places it is worse

its like a clock

coming in 12 3 worst typically 6-9 9-12 more tornado eeee

LOL! Sounds like something my DH would do as well!

ETA: Here is a link for a man who was mowing his grass with a tornado in the background! He proudly indicated that he finished the job.
