"Upped DC from 8000 to 16000"...does that mean they are doubling the volume of water in controlled dam releases? If so, sounds like they have given up on trying to save neighborhoods & are focused entirely on saving the dams.

I agree my dam friend (not damn friend ha!

I was really surprised how low it was and the way you just worded it I think they wanted to get flow patterns - they stated this AM that since its never been used they are not sure how water was gonna be afraid

I also learned during orville that overflow is bad casue its going all over the place , creates erosion and can weakin the base of the whole thing

They were really freaked out when Orvilee overtopped - one of the most amazing construction sites ever set up ! In like three days it looked like ants all over the place with trucks!!

NEESAKI ... who is In Cypress? is everything all right for you, your friends/family? praying for ya.

Haven't heard from Geevee for going on several hours now. When last I heard, it didn't look good, neighbors were beginning to leave, and she thought she would likely have to as well.

Isn't looking good at all, but if she had to leave, at least she likely had some control over when and how and to where.

Oh dear ... I hope if they left that it wasn't a tremendous difficulty ... I imagine even driving anywhere would be full of obstacles to thwart an easy getaway. Prayers and hopes. Keep us posted on geevee if you hear anything more, Hope4.

Michigan is sending help from several resources:

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/ne...hurricane-harvey-michigan-response/105054826/
-Metro Detroit charities and organizations sent people, fleets of vehicles and volunteers for the Harvey rescue efforts, including from the Red Cross, Salvation Army, the Ford Fund, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and local U.S. Coast Guard, where the Great Lakes resources are “uniquely capable” in shallow-water rescues.
-Red Cross sending 60 people, emergency response vehicles
-Coast Guard stations in St. Clair Shores and Saginaw River each sent an airboat over the weekend
-The Coast Guard’s Sector Detroit sent 21 people to Texas, as well as 12 guardsmen to help with engineering support, said Lt. Jodie Knox, a spokeswoman. It was preparing to send nine more, including three boat crews on a C-27 Tuesday, as well as seven quick-deployable inflatable rescue boats and a skiff boat, Knox said.
-Airboats and crews were also sent from Coast Guard Station Marblehead on Lake Erie in Ohio and from Station Sturgeon Bay on Lake Michigan in Wisconsin, as well as two helicopters from Waukegan, on Lake Michigan in Illinois, McCrum said. An air crew of seven deployed from Traverse City to Texas on Monday, he said.
-U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Northern Region Air and Marine Operations on Monday sent a Black Hawk helicopter out of Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township with a crew of four.
-(Intercontinental/Houston Airport). Spirit Airlines, which evacuated about 100 stranded passengers from IAH airport to Detroit on Monday; Passengers will receive “free flights to Detroit and any connecting flights in Spirit's network.”

(Coast Guard, Saginaw)Some of the items he's prepared to send are personal protective equipment, chainsaws and three of four rescue ice boats, he said.

The first boat was sent down on a trailer, but Coast Guard personnel were trying to figure out Monday morning how to transport the additional boats, said Coast Guard Master Chief Mike Beatty.

I cannot remember if I posted this here or not. Trying to stay out of flood waters here in Houston is a full time nightmare! My family is fortunate my house is dry and has power. My daughter and her hubby are with us since they lost power Saturday and they only live 5 blocks away. Go figure! My sister and her husband are trying to make their way over since Buffalo Bayou is about to enter her house after the reservoir release earlier. That will be 6 adults and 5 dogs in a 3 bedroom house but we are so fine and grateful!!

For those asking about where to donate, here is one list that is legit. Again, if I already posted this I apologize. It's kinda crazy down here!

I think CocoChanel might have run into trouble as she hasn't been on since this morning, and she was already having serious concerns before that. Sending my thoughts, and lots of hope and prayers for CocoChanel , for GeeVee, and for any of our other members who are out there being confronted by this devastating situation. And for everyone suffering through this.

As for me, I feel so terrible for everyone and so darn helpless! :tears: So for now I guess I'll just go donate, at least that's better than nothing. I really appreciate the community of Websleuths, BTW. Thank you, Tricia and mods. and members.

Hope

How often had you been hearing from them? Were they in an area that as time passed started to be alerted to problems

Do you know last your heard power deal -- thinking maybe no charge of cell

when is the last time your heard ??

this whole thing is getting scary and it is just going on for so long

This is different than Katrina in that ( I will never forget the first time I saw aerials of NO ever.

at the same time it was a peroid. This is never ending new areas destroyed that were not destroyed 4 hours ago .

This is going to go on for weeks and weeks

How on earth are people finding these addresses

I know my sense of directions matches my ability to locate the keys on the keyboard - however - how on earth do you find flooded houses.

They are now in neighborhood that has nothing to do with rain and is totally related to the discharge which explained why the water is different color

There are people that are staying that will be in trouble It does not seem like they are making a distinction between Harvey and flooding induced by spillway release.

They were dry this am before DC . Dc is going to continue , so the notion that they think they are at the highest level makes no sense imo

In another area airboats are going out to the I -10 mess (also due to DC) .

The I 10 thing has apartment buildings that are two story the water is in the 2nd floors .

Totally baffled by electricity . I was always taught that elec and water do not mix. So how on earth we are seeing flooded places with lights on is more than bewildering

Other water guy presser

and the hits keep coming . The really bad San Janquin river basically his words quite frank the gauge is gone, its all flooded and we have no way to get there cause everything is flooded .

We think we have 12 other gages that are not giving accurate readings so we really do not know what is going there either.

He listed them cause he was afraid that people will be going on line to check what is going on and get misleading info

we are however starting to see a glimmer of hope we are getting some lower levels

but it is going to take time about 3 4 days for the roads

the dam problem will be a long time (makes sense casue all the things upstream are still going there )

he warned that whole system has been stressed beyond anything and we are dealing with pressure

Harvey as it moves east is causing similiar flooding problems as it goes to the east

over there white caps on some flooding areas cause they are catching tropical sotrm winds from tropical depression Harvey.

whew!

This happens often as I am sure you can tell .

You certainly don't want me typing anything legal for you - who could imagine what might happen you be rich or bankrupt!!

Or in prison..............................

[h=1]Important pre- and post-storm electric and natural gas safety tips[/h]http://abc13.com/weather/pre--and-post-storm-electric-natural-gas-safety-tips/2339241/

Electric
If you experience flooding and water has risen above the electrical outlets in your home, contact a licensed electrician before turning on the main circuit breaker or trying to restore power.

All electrical appliances and electronic equipment that have been submerged in water need to dry thoroughly for at least one week. Then, have them checked by a qualified repair person before turning them on. Attempting to repair a flood-damaged appliance could result in electrical shock or death. Attempting to restart it could result in further damage and costly repairs.

If the outside unit of an air conditioning system has been under water, mud and water may have accumulated in the controls. Have the unit checked by a qualified air conditioning technician.

Natural Gas

Do not turn off your natural gas service at the meter; doing so could allow water to enter the natural gas lines. Instead, turn off the natural gas at each appliance.

Be alert for the smell of natural gas. If you smell gas, leave the area immediately on foot and tell others to leave, too.

If you smell gas, do not turn the lights on or off, smoke, strike a match, use a cell phone or operate anything that might cause a spark, including a flashlight or a generator.

Do not attempt to turn natural gas valves on or off. Once safely away from the area, call 888-876-5786 and CenterPoint Energy will send a trained service technician.

If your home was flooded, call a licensed plumber or gas appliance technician to inspect your appliances and gas piping to make sure they are in good operating condition before calling CenterPoint Energy to reconnect service. This includes outdoor gas appliances including pool heaters, gas grills and gas lights.
