From Jax's link:

Hunter of the CFA said that homeowners without flood insurance can possibly apply for federal disaster relief benefits, but those come in the form of low interest loans, a burden for those already struggling with too much debt.

"If you have $30,000 in damages, you can get maybe $25,000," Hunter said. "But there will be interest, and then you have your mortgage. You'll have two loans on your house."

I wonder why they didn't mention Ike? No Matthew!!! Why is it only Sandy and Katrina? No Matthew? Good grief!

Popsicle posted above about the young man who was electrocuted. How awful for him and his friend/family.
http://abc13.com/2358976/

Tuesday around 2:30 p.m., Andrew Pasek, 25, and his friend Shawn went to a home in the Bear Creek 1 subdivision near Highway 6 and Clay Road. They were there to get Pasek's sister's cat left behind in the rush to evacuate their home.

Andrew stepped in the yard unaware that a landscape light electrified the water. He stumbled and grabbed the lamppost, using his last words to warn his friend to stay away, his mother said.

OMG ... 79 to 82 FEET DEEP when they let the dam open! This is unbelievable, or should I say unfathomable, to me. I honestly cannot comprehend this any more. I can only pray everyone heard in time and moved out of the area. :praying:

Am I ever so glad to see you here! Yes, Boots, I expect it to get a lot worse, and no telling how long until you can feel a semblance of back-to-as-normal-as-it-will-get. I am so sorry for that.

I don't understand why this story isn't being picked up!!!!! Its heartbreaking!!!! And more people need to be aware of this danger in particular!!!

I agree with Spellz! This is a very profound post CARIIS. Had to catch my breath after reading it. Is Joey okay? I remember reading about him on Pulse's thread. I'm curious though. What is Orville?
Maker of popcorn... come on Boots.

9 pm CT for me. It looks like it could get stormy here! I'm nervous!

Has BigFatMommyDog, Geevee, or totesmagoat checked in yet? I know there are more I'm missing. BESSIE!! Any word from Bessie??

I don't think I have seen any of them today .... :shakehead: please, please let them all be fine.

They've been on my mind all day. Keep coming back here and hoping I'll see their posts. I'm going to trust though that they're very busy and will check in here when they can.

I see the images on tv and still can't wrap my brain around what I'm seeing. So stunned at the extent of damage and suffering Harvey has caused.

Who would have ever thought...

ETA - Meant to say too, Bootsctr, please stay safe!

Even though I know there is nothing I can do, I hate to pull myself away for very long. But I do have to go to bed earlier tonight. You will all be in my thoughts and I am sending warm hugs to everyone... our Texas friends who are experiencing something behind words, and to our WS friends who want so badly to be doing something to help.

:grouphug: :offtobed:

Hi y'all! I'm here! We are all doing good! It's been beautiful in Guadalupe county. Mom is fine lol I hate that word but seriously she's okay. I'm worried about Geevee! I have a friend in Katy doing rescues and if I remember correctly she said she was about 15 miles from Katy. I wish she and BFMD would check in! I scrolled through to see if either one had posted and couldn't find anything. :( I'm worried!

Geevee hasn't signed on since 8pm on the 28th. Hope all is well.

Probably no power, and electronics have run out of battery or saving battery life for emergencies.

No, there's been no word. This is what has me worried about our dear friends here. No Bessie, no BigFatMommyDog, no Geevee, no Cocochanel, no totesmagoat. Prayers everyone?! For them and all the others too.

ETA: Thanks for checking in totesmagoat! So happy you're well and here! :happydance:

Yay!! totesmagoat!! So happy to see you check in. Glad too to hear your mom is doing alright. Been wondering about her all day too.

But no, as 'neesaki' said earlier, the others have not posted in awhile. We're all feeling sort of nervous about that...

Not sure if it has been mentioned on this thread. Anyone heard the news about possible chemical explosion on a company at Crosby? Lack of power to maintain the refrigeration could start it.

Thanks Jax49, for staying on top of this, and letting us know. Not hearing from her or the rest of them keeps me concerned.

I think we'll all feel much better once they finally get a chance to check in...

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/08/30/arkema-ceo-no-way-to-potentially-stop-an-explosion.html

The company evacuated remaining workers on Tuesday and Harris County ordered the evacuation of residents in a 1.5-mile radius of the plant that makes organic chemicals.

Richard Rowe, CEO of the North America unit, told reporters that chemicals on the site will catch fire and explode if they are not properly cooled, and that Arkema expects that to happen within the next six days as temperatures rise. He said the company has no way to prevent that because the plant is swamped by about six feet of water.

:scared: This sounds so dangerous!

List of chemicals:
https://iaspub.epa.gov/enviro/tsca.get_chem_info?v_registry_id=110000463258

"The company wouldn't or couldn't say specifically which chemicals are at the center of this incident. Some digging into records the company is required to file by law revealed*a list of 19 chemicals they use or have used.

At least one of the chemicals has to be kept at a maximum of 50 degrees Fahrenheit or it can combust.

Arkema has called a 9 a.m. press conference on Thursday where we hope to learn more about the dangers facing those who are near the plant and what authorities are doing to attempt to reduce that risk."

I'm not sure a mile and a half radius evac is enough? How toxic are those fumes...how far will they travel, etc...?
