Islamorado guy is back, but appears to be charging his phone!

All the more amazing that the store in Islamorada still has power!

You'd think that disconnecting the power would follow the evacuation order. How many people will die because of fallen live wires?

Anyone out there from Port Charlotte area? My mom refused to evacuate and now I can't reach her by phone. So frustrating. She also was unable to get water(sold out) but reassured me she bought Sprite since it's also clear liquid. (!) Dear God. She is elderly and not in best shape. She wouldn't go to shelter even though she went through Charlie and barely survived. At least my brother was with her then but has since passed away. She said if it's her time so be it. Very upsetting. TIA for any info.

This kid is live streaming on Periscope from Marathon on the Keys:

Edit: Seems like everyone live streaming on cellphones have been disconnected at about the same time. I assume all the cell towers are out/knocked over?

I understand, I'm very worried about the elderly on the gulf coast. Your mother is not alone, most didn't even have the means to move to shelters in town.

I'll try to post reports I find from the Port Charlotte area.

Thank you Jersey Girl!! I am in NJ. We have been trying to get my mom to move here since my brother died but she hasn't. Her building does not seem very strong. I am praying for all in the path. I love Florida especially the west coast and keys.

Very sadly it is three people now.

"A man was killed after tropical-storm-strength winds caused him to lose control of the truck he was driving through Monroe County, which contains Key West. He had been carrying a generator, local officials told ABC News.

Two others died in a car accident in Hardee County, Florida, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The area is around 60 miles inland from Sarasota.

Those deaths come after Irma claimed at least 25 lives in the Caribbean as it swept over several countries, destroying entire islands.

As this Hurricane makes landfall on the keys my thoughts keep going to the Hemingway house where all those 55 cats are. I feel so bad for them. :(

Did you check if she is in a flood zone?

Here is the Charlotte County emergency management page: https://www.charlottecountyfl.gov/services/emergencymgmt/Pages/default.aspx

It broke my heart last night reading stories of the elderly trying to flee to Germain Arena, the shelter of last resort.

Your mom is in my prayers.

"Good morning"

well what a crock that is!

anyone knows it not a good morning !

how is this a good morning ?

HOw could this be a good morning, I ask each of you!

a good morning is when you are awoken by a knock on the door and the PUblishers Clearing House gang with a bunch of balloons and a giant check of one point two million bucks.\\

Another notion of a good morning might be when a cat 3 Irma is on nones mind - and the concern might be , like Shakespeare says "To vacuum or not Oh I thee shall wonder cometh now" . All the carpet is a stage!

how about - "morning"- that might not be true in another time zone - so that would make me not being honest

what about "Hey"

Hey might not be so good either- later that could be used "Hey was that your car I saw flying in that direction?

So I shall Isay I hope everyone is safe !

I think they are alright. The Key West guy streaming from inside a concrete building seemed to be holding it together up until the feed stopped (I think the cell towers are out in the Keys now).

This guy is monitoring all the live feeds in Key West and is broadcasting them. In between looking for new live streams, he talks about the weather, power outages, etc.:
