thank you Boatswainsmate.

No problem. I've got friends and relatives down there, too, so I've been watching the news and checking maps all night. Good luck to your friend.

I wish these guys on Fox and CNN would get in out of the storm! There's stuff flying at them, and they're right by power lines, and they're staggering all around trying not to get knocked over. I mean, is having a live (at least for now) person out there so very necessary? I think I'll switch over to watching that rivercam!

Yikes. When we were watching the people waiting to get into the Superdome, my husband commented that he would not be going there... Of course, the way that we procrastinate, we'd still be stuck in traffic...

Ugh - that is just terrifying. Changes the aerodynamics of the building, too....

That's what it looks like to me. I went to 411.com to search for a zip code for Holden and it still came up as Livingston so I'm guessing Holden is in Livingston Parrish/County.

Yes that is in Livingston Parish. I live in Lafayette which is about 125 miles from New Orleans and about 45 miles from Baton Rouge. Right now we are getting a slight drizzle of rain and some gusting winds. Its kinda of quite right now but we are expecting high winds and heavy rains later on today. I will try to keep you all posted during the day.

I have MSNBC on and they were saying that the authorities got a message from a guy who had decided to stay and weather the storm out....he called on his cell and said he was not sure he could get through his roof, but he had an axe and a hammer and he stated....."Come and get me; I want to live!"

Why do these people not heed the warnings?

Exactly Jovin. Now he wants someone to risk their life to "come and get me!"

The sad thing is that no one will be going...not in this! I changed back to Fox, and they said the one levee has been broken and that houses are flooded to the ceilings ....I just can't imagine the terror of those who never left their homes. God bless them.

Some buildings have collapsed in NO and people are calling 911 to be rescued. They will just have to wait and rescue themselves. Emergency personnel cannot go out now, it's too dangerous, per FOX.

God bless all those effected.

If I lived in a place that was below sea level, it wouldn't take much thought for me to evacuate to higher ground BEFORE the hurricane hit town.

ETA: I certainly wouldn't be one of these idiot reporters reporting outside in the hurricane. Geez...anything for a story.
