Hurricane Lane - Hawaii, August 2018

I lived there when Darby hit, which this is now starting to remind me of. This one has been worrying me so much the last few days. More than anything when I lived on Maui. So much love to my Maui ohana!

Weather Channel is reporting a brush fire on Maui...at least one woman suffered burns and was evacuated.

I have a cousin in Oahu. I'm watching the earthcam webcams (surprisingly few cameras in Hawaii!) and it seems ok for the moment.
Cat 2 , approaching Oahu ...my daughter says it feels like they are in the zone ...It hasn’t come down on them yet.

Pray for Hawaii

Downgraded to a Tropical Storm.

Downgraded to a Tropical Storm.

By the sounds of it this weather system has followed the usual pattern of storms declining in ferocity as they approach HI. One starts to appreciate why so few hurricanes (or should they be termed typhoons since we're talking about the Pacific?) hit the islands.

So far the Atlantic hurricane season has been remarkably quiet.

They did a segment on the Weather Channel explaining why Lane was a hurricane, not a typhoon. Also, I found this:

It is not until you head much farther west in the Pacific where such storms are called "typhoons".

Is Lane a hurricane? Or a typhoon? Or a cyclone?

My niece and her family were safe as of last night. Waiting for her morning update.

Hopefully they're fine. Honolulu, right? One of the weathermen on the Weather Channel made a comment several hours ago, "Honolulu, this isn't your storm."
