Chance of hurricane force winds in West Palm Beach down to 25%. Rain bands and high winds approaching so there can still be troubles coming. Worrisome is further north. Around Daytona Beach Matthew may come closer to the coastline. That could be big trouble. What happens there will affect what happens in Jax. Storm surge still a potential nightmare.

Years ago, my 110 lb Doberman jumped on me in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. Scared the (*%& out of me. As soon as I got my senses, I realized that it was pouring down rain and he was trembling with fear. So I turned the news on to check the weather. A cell with circulation was being tracked. Within a few minutes a tornado touched down on the county jail some 15 miles from my house.
Glad you were ok but that's one heck of an awakening LOL Animals just know.

West Palm Beach daughter finally texted me. She said they're getting gusts of 70 mph and are told it may climb to 100 mph around midnight. Not sustained though, thank goodness. She says the wind is really loud, not a ton of rain. They still have power but friends have lost theirs so it's probably coming. She says it's better than what they were told it would be. I'm so glad about that!

The local authorities are trying so hard to get people to evacuate. We are in a zone where surge isn't an issue but we have lots of trees so losing power is expected. My neighbor who needs oxygen was called by the mayor. He requested she evacuate before midnight tonight.

Here is a link to the National Weather Service alerts. You can pick the state and then the county you are interested in.

She and her husband have gone to a nearby church that has generators. I couldn't believe he called her himself. Between meeting with the governor and doing CNN, etc., he was working the phones.
I'm still nervous but I've got a good place set up (an interior walk-in closet) so I think I'll be fine.

New spaghetti models in - keeping Matthew's eye offshore at least until Jax.

So glad they are safe and I pray they continue to remain safe through the night. Any idea what time the worst is supposed to be over for them?

24k now in Palm Beach w/o power. Social media posting tweets from families showing their kids wearing "lucky" or "protective" items to keep them safe from Matthew. I remember how scared my kids were during Andrew when a tornado rolled down our street. We fled from one room to another as the roof tore away and windows shattered. Poor little ones, it makes me cry. They're all in my thoughts.

Jax you stay safe! If there's any tall trees near your home please please please get to the safest area of your home away from the trees and windows. Praying for you!
