After Rita is 'Stan' then hypothetically Tammy, Vince & Wilma and thats it for the year. I wonder if they have ever run out of names?
OMG...lol..Wilma. Can you imagine telling your grandkids...yeah honey, we lost everything in the great storm of WILMA. ;) I know storms are not funny. Especially ones in the GOM...when you live along the coastal areas. But, I did laugh out loud when I saw that name. What were they thinking!?!? Probably that the name would never be used. IMO

Let's just hope that no one finds this name catchy along with Wilda and start naming their kids this.

NO FLorida is not spared

I live in Key Largo

For now the state parks are being closed and I am not sure if the tourists have been evacced or not ...

I will keep you all posted :)

Hey MaryKate! :)

Yes, there is a mandatory evacuation order for all tourists in the Keys vicinity - not sure about residents.

"Rita" may still be only a tropical depression but a "state of emergency" has already been issued. Looks like the Keys are right in her path as she makes her way into the Gulf toward the Texas/Mexico coastline.

Sure hope you have a bag packed, car gassed, cash from the ATM, meds and all necessities for the furry family members ready to roll on out of there.

Stay Safe, MaryKate!! :blowkiss:

What do they do when they go through the whole alphabet??? Hmmmmm.

:waitasec: if we run out of names, do the hurricanes shut down until next season?

Looking at your location...I bet you are wishing that was true! Stay safe BB. IMO

They name them alphabetically the I guess would start over at the beginning if we went through the list.

NO evac for residence yet only those in Mobile homes (not sure if that is mandatory)

We have the shudders up and the SHelters are open which is a good sign as I have been told they don't even open the shelters for anything beyond a 1 they just evac the entire keys.

So keeping my fingers crossed its just a 1:)

Last night on CNN I heard the commentor say if they run out of names they then start with the Greek Alpha to Omega. It was the newscaster on the show that starts at 2am on the west coast. Thought that was strange, but he repeated it twice.

(Accuweather.com) Rita will continue to strengthen given the lack of shear aloft and warm waters in its path. Heavy rain and strong winds will affect the Bahamas over the next couple of days, and we feel that Rita will track across the Florida Straits Tuesday, perhaps as a hurricane before heading west into the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane conditions could effect the Florida Keys while tropical storm conditions occur farther north into South Florida, mainly from later Monday night into Tuesday. A strong upper-level ridge of high pressure centered over Louisiana is expected to build east into northern and central Florida beginning Monday. This upper-level ridge will keep this feature on a westward track, and we are concerned that Rita could make landfall as a major hurricane across the Texas or Mexican coast late this week or early in the weekend. All interests in South Florida, particularly in the Keys, as well as the Texas coast should monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Rita. Rough surf, rip currents and minor beach erosion will be a threat through Tuesday along the East Coast Florida beaches, especially south of Cape Canaveral.

That blog also said this:

"On the other hand, hurricane specialists say they're also running out of storm systems in the Atlantic. It could be the end of the season. Or, it could be a lull."

Guess it was a lull, eh? Plenty of systems now!
Yeah....LOL...I caught that also. :) IMO

Now Fox just said RITA could actually go to the gulf and hit NEW ORLEANS.

WHAT THE HECK!

Meanwhile, genius N.O. Mayor Nagin is bound and determined to return 180,000 people back to N.O. by next week, even thought the levees, as they stand now, couldn't survive even a Cat 3 storm.

I guess he needs the people back so he can continue to be mayor. No people no city. I wonder what they think of him and his invitation to the dome in the first place. He might want to run and hide.
