Oh well, I heard, or read, lol, that if they run out of our alphabet (of names) they use the Greek alphabet. Alpha, Beta, etc. Anyone else hear this?
How much damage did you have this past hurricane season? I know you must be feeling nervous. I hope you stay safe. I feel for you guys. Life hasn't been fair to yall lately!Beyond Belief said:there was so much traffic on I 95 at 3 oclock when I got off work today, i took the back roads home. We are two hrs north of miami and i bet people ae coming all the way up here looking for rooms.
we saw several rain bands this afternoon, but the day is still sunny with wind.
As long as it goes west theres no problem for us. If it heads this way, we are outof here. No damage this season, last year was horrible. But then, I have lived here for 35 yrs and never had any problems with hurricanes until Frances and Jeanne. knock wood.deandaniellws said:How much damage did you have this past hurricane season? That means there have been 7 named storms since the end of August.MaryKate said:They name them alphabetically the I guess would start over at the beginning if we went through the list.
NO evac for residence yet only those in Mobile homes (not sure if that is mandatory)
We have the shudders up and the SHelters are open which is a good sign as I have been told they don't even open the shelters for anything beyond a 1 they just evac the entire keys.
So keeping my fingers crossed its just a 1![]()
I thought I had heard they were evacuating all ove the keys, but who knows. I just saw some information on Galveston last night. They were talking abt the one from 1900. Very sad story. they did say the bulkhead that was built there works great.deandaniellws said:I just adore Flordia. It is so beautiful.Keep your fingers crossed for Texas too. We haven't had one in a long time...and the city has been over built. If one hits, there will be lots of flooding and damage. Alllison was just a TS and the whole downtown and medical center flooded.
I hope you guys in Flordia continue to post as much as you can so we will know yall are all right.
Concern, I do hope they are wrong. If it hits Galveston, we here in Houston are in for a lot of trouble. With the shelters already full, this is going to be a nightmare. My husband left our farm today and is headed back to Houston to board up our house down there...just in case. I am worried at the moment.concernedperson said:The projection at this very early juncture is Galvestion to the west. I, in my uneducated opinion, think Terrebonne Parish in Louisiana. I hope I am wrong. But, if this is the case then New Orleans will experience the NE quadrant and have a significant problem. The only good news is that the area is not heavily populated at this time.
Yes it does. We actually live in Baytown. It will not be protected. It will flood big time. The Houston, Galveston, Beaumont areas are all prone to flooding due to the massive over building. No where to let the water run off if you have most of it covered with houses and buildings.Beyond Belief said:I thought I had heard they were evacuating all ove the keys, but who knows. I appreciate that. I do understand what you mean about the less populated areas. I hope people will take this one serious. No one needs to stay if they can help it. Remember Hugo? It was headed right for us and turned in the last 24 hours. It took so many people by surprise because it made that little turn. Many lost their lives because they were not prepared for it to come there. Hopefully, people will take notice now...in light of the tragic situation that Katrina created.concernedperson said:What I am saying is I don't think it will be Texas at all. I think it will be Terrebonne Parish. That hurts New Orleans a lot but it could be a little west around Calcasieu Parish and that is not heavily populated. I mean I hope no one is hurt but I would rather see less populated areas. I can't control Mother Nature I just hope for less human tragedy. I am thinking of you and understand your worries.
