We are expecting high winds and tons of rain... I live 250 miles from the Beautmont/Port Arthur Area.... about the same distance (190 miles) from Houston.... I am thinking Michigan looks pretty good right now

Please everyone, stay safe!

Sassygirl, I was just getting ready to ask you what they were predicting for your area. I have friends who live near Austin. One is the past Sheriff of Travis county. Actually I think they live south of Austin(guess thats not good). Going to try and check on them. One moved there from Florida and has been thru some hurricanes before so I'm sure she will make the right decisssion. Stay safe.Sassygerl said:Hey Dani......ours news is just saying to prepare for tropical storm conditions, and of course tornadoes. I think he'll be fine..heck I'm stayin and I wouldn't if it was scaryWe might lose power and have some tree debris flying around, but I feel pretty safe. I am going to clear out my closet under the stairs should this thing stay on path, but I feel ok here. Keep in mind they are saying for evacuees from Houston, etc. to come to Austin.....he'll be ok
ETA: all of Texans are use to the tornado warnings...to be honest I hardly pay attention because the chances of you being hit are so slim! I will this time though only because there will probably be many, but with tornadoes you always hear those crazy stories with the house being wiped out but the tub or closet still intact......with Earthquakes you have no where safe to go but UP!!!!! That's why I've never gone to CA!!!! That to me is SCARY! It's all what you're use to!
kgeaux said:Thank God! I just don't think I could watch more video showing the plight of abandoned animals. I was just watching an interview on Fox & Friends with Kay Richardson (is that right? it sounds funny all of a sudden.) They were showing the evacuation routes. So many more roads than out of NO!! It looks like such an excellent plan, Texas looks so prepared.
I truly hope none of you in the projected areas decide to ride this out. This looks like one heck of a storm. And if you have to go, GO EARLY!! Read over BirdieBoo's thread and make sure you take everything you will need!
God bless you Texans. I am praying this storm will just somehow lose power, maybe we will get a miracle!
Kato, I don't mean to make light of what was a tragedy but the mental picture that you just gave me made me laugh.kato said:Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson.
My BF has been preparing us 4/ever. I always make fun of him. He was around for Carla. (I wasn't even born yet. He's 20 yrs. older than me.) He was growing up in El Campo at the time. He said the wind was so strong that it took all the feathers off the chickens and that cows were hanging off power lines when it was all said and done. I guess that's why he gets all worked up over this stuff.

kato said:We live in SW Houston about 55 miles from Galveston. Anyways, they said that the west end of Galveston has no seawall to prevent storm surges. Traffic coming out of Galveston on I-45 is very heavy right now and it's only 6:30 a.m.. Also, they talked to some people who had boarded up their houses and leaving and they are all scared they will come back to nothing.

Yes, Carla did lots of damage in Hou/Gal and it came ashore btwn Port O'Conner and Port Lavaca....remember that #5 tornado close to Austin (Jarrell) that had 220mph winds? It picked up corn from the fields that went thorouh cows like spears!
