Mayor White holding PC at 9:30. May talk about evacuating some parts of Houston/Harris County. Local weather continues to say the storm is strengthing and is very dangerous. I get kind of leary when they dramatize.

kato said:Well my BF's daughter just called and they are closing their building in a couple hrs. Lucky her. I'm not worried because what will happen will happen. Our building mgmt. just sent out a hurricane memo. But you can bet your *ss if I'm at work when the 1st rains start I'll be outta there whether my boss says ok are not. Last year during TS Alison it took me % hrs. to get home and that was only 7 miles.

Thanks for the heads up Kato. I'm heading to our cafeteria to watch. The dramatizing has me a little leary also.kato said:Mayor White holding PC at 9:30. I remember going through Alicia, but I was only 13 or 14 at the time and didn't realize how dangerous it was. This is my first hurricane since becoming a mom and that has me a little freaked out too. Her pre-school is closed tomorrow and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that our offices will close as well.
I heard a little on the news this morning that they will call for mandatory evacuations of Galveston at 6:00 PM tonight. Haven't heard anything else since and haven't read through this thread yet.
BTW - I'm in Sugar Land, south of Houston and there is not a battery to be found anywhere!
Be safe guys!!! :blowkiss:

I went through Alicia too. I was about 18 or 19. I'm not far from you so I'll be thinking about you. Even if we don't lose power my BF will probalby not let me on the PC. At it is now he unplugs it during thunderstorms. If you have a TV at work the mayor is having a PC in 30 min. at 9:30.
NewMom2003 said:Thanks Kato, I'll be thinking of you also. :blowkiss: We have friends coming in from Needville (way out in the boonies) to stay with us through this.
Where is Jules? She's in Houston also and I think she has people staying with her from Louisiana.
I'm heading to our cafeteria now to see White's pc.

Shadow205 said:I just read this on another message board. A woman was asking what will the cruise ships do that are already out of the port. She said her sister is on a cruise, left from Galveston and is due back in on Saturday morning. Well, that isn't going to happen. Where will they go? How will the passengers get back to their vehicles which are at the Port of Galveston? By Saturday morning I would say their vehicles will be gone. I don't know how many ships are out from Galveston right now but I would say it is quite a few, that is a lot of displaced people. Looking for a link on what the plan is now.
deandaniellws said:No guys, it is not looking good for us. My husband is down in Baytown boarding up the house and getting the pictures of the kids off the walls. The traffic is unbelieveable! I really did love that house. I just found out that damage to our swimming pool is not covered. All this really sucks.
DEPUTYDAWG said:Considering I live, literally, in Crawford, I personally hope you are right. I know that you're hoping for something else, however.
They're telling us on our news to be prepared for up to 80mph winds and 5-10 inches of rain. I'm thinking the most problem we may have is loss of power for awhile (they say to expect power could be out for a few days, since it will probably be out for our area and all areas in between, down to the coast line, so repairs might not be as quick as usual.)
GABBY -
Wanna carpool to Michigan?! :waitasec:
DEPUTYDAWG said:Best wishes to you, and Kato, etc...I'll offer up a spare room to anyone needing a place to stay! We can have a "storm party," LOL. All hotel rooms as far north as Waco are now supposedly all full, no vacancies. Wow.
