LOL This is the most free time I've had in awhile. We have been sooooo busy. Guess that's why our stock is so high. Which is a good thing.
OMGosh..you must work for ExxonMobil! Yep...it is at an all time high for this year. My sister works there also.

We are staying. I feel pretty safe in our house. There are two large retention ponds in my subdivision so I'm not worried about flooding. We also have a huge walk in closet that is close to the middle of the house. I'm going to clean it out tonight to make room for us just in case. I can also get the phone to reach into there. Kato mentioned on a post above about having a regular phone and not just a cordless. That's good advice. My biggest concern is windows breaking. What are your thoughts about taping windows?

What about you? Are y'all staying?
Check at the first of this thread. I have a link telling that taping windows is pretty much worthless. Please take care.

Ok guys, I am so worried about this hurricane. My son is stationed at the coast guard in houston. He cannot leave, he is on the rescue heli's. I am worried sick. He can't even take his apt. belongings or his car anywhere. No where to take it. He can't leave...:( I am worried sick about him. Maybe I shouldn't be, but I am. He's twenty four and single. I am so upset. Worried horribly about him. I can't help it. I am just sitting here crying and can't stop. I am sorry I just needed to talk.

LilPony,

I live up in MI, where the most we get are tornados. Having no experience with hurricanes in the least, I just wanted to tell you that I'll pray for your son. My list is getting bigger every minute.

I'm here and I'll say a prayer for him.

OK My boss was just in here and I think I finally understand now. We are on the 4th floor and he has an outer office while mine is inner so he moved some stuff in here. He said there has never been a storm like this and that we are on the dirty side. So, now I am starting to worry a bit. Conroe which is about 45 - 50 min north of Houston is now an 8 hr. drive. I take 59 South to go home so doubt there will be much traffic heading south.

Hwy 6 is bumper to bumper from 288 going North towards 59....lots of places out of gas.

Gas is running out. My boss just had todrive 5 miles to find some.

I'm sure your son will remember his training and come out of this OK lilpony.
I imagine it's hard for you as a parent but brave men like your son will be heros to many in a couple of days. I hope they are in a safe building til the storm blows through--then he' will be in the safest place--in the AIR above all the destruction. Will sure send up some prayers.........

I just heard on FOX News that they have all of those busses lined up in Galveston to evacuate people who do not have transportation. Sadly they said that so far only about 35 people have boarded the busses. That could mean that a whole lot of people are planning on riding it out. That is going to be a very bad situation!

  • #317
Public bus and rail service will be stopped Fri.. The HOV lanes are waiving occupancy rules. Toll roads are open for free.

Thank you everyone, for your kind words.

They evacated about 1,200 this morning. I'm sure there will be more as people get off work down there.

Same old thing, some people won't leave until they are absolutely certain the hurricane is going to make landfall where they are. Then it will be the last minute highway traffic parking lot.
