I so agree, we just don't know yet! From what TexMex just posted, I'd say she didn't get the paperwork TO Washington on Sunday...if I were a betting person, I bet she got it there on Wednesday...we'll find out, I'm sure....
So much for not blaming and waiting to see.

I don't have a problem with you not doing so, but when you tell others not to....

I have an aquantence who lives in Maryland that is assigned to the secret service detail that said you wouldn't believe how many times they had to sneak Chelsie out of the back door of a drinking party that the cops were raiding due to underage drinking. She was a partier too but it never got reported because the media respected the Clinton's desire for privacy. He also said that Al Gore was a hateful mean jerk. Clinton was nice though. Dont believe this about the Clinton's daughter if you want.....

Hi ty

We could have had people on the road Tuesday," Cutler said. "We have to wait and respond to their need."

The Michigan National Guard was asked for military police by Mississippi late Tuesday and by Louisiana officials late Wednesday. The state sent 182 MPs to Mississippi on Friday and had 242 headed to Louisiana on Saturday.

Typically, the authority to use the National Guard in a state role lies with the governor, who tells his or her adjutant general to order individual Guard units to begin duty. Turnaround time varies depending on the number of troops involved, their location and their assigned missions.

One factor that may have further complicated post-Katrina deployment arose when Louisiana discovered it needed Guardsmen to do more law enforcement duty because a large portion of the New Orleans police force was not functioning, according to Lt. Gen. Steven H. Blum, chief of the National Guard Bureau at the Pentagon.

Because the agreement that was already in existence for states to contribute Guard troops to Louisiana did not include a provision on their use in law enforcement, Blum said, Gov. Blanco had to get separate written agreements authorizing Guardsmen to do police-type duty.

To me, MS was quicker to respond then, than LA's Governor. And again, she then had to ask for a separate type of request, as I had mentioned before. So she didn't ask for their help until Wednesday. We haven't seen specifics yet of when she actually forwarded the request for NM's help, have we? It may have been on Wednesday as well, turned around by Washington on Thursday....

Well, while we're all in great debate about this and now pointing fingers  somewhat, Pres Bush 41 and Pres Clinton are on TV saying that now is not the time to be blaming! And, I was impressed with what both of them said! Whew.

Didn't I read somewhere that he and John Kerry had about the same grades from Yale??? In fact I think that Bush's were a point or two higher. Yale is a pretty hard school....

I'm not saying she did, I prefaced it by saying I'm betting she didn't, and I mentioned in my earlier post that I'm 'weakening' on what I said about 4 days ago, as much has been coming out since then. Geez.

I have a cousin who protects Lady Bird Johnson. Lives in beautiful Austin and she takes the agents and their families on a Bahaman vacation every summer!
Lucky duty!

So, how do we square that with the fact that she apparently did request them. What do you make of the article that says she asked for them Sunday (they were offered from New Mexico) and the White House didn't approve them until Thursday?

Maybe we need one thread to just discuss this one issue and put the articles that pertain. We're posting the same few articles, but I think they're getting lost. What do you think?

Dara, these were troops that she requested from the governor of New Mexico. These are not troops that she asked Bush for. This was a governor to governor agreement which needed to be rubber stamped somewhere in Washington.

What day did Blanco accept his offer? What day did she send the paperwork to Washington???????? We haven't seen that yet, have we?

Anyone know the answer? These are critical, IMO, before we place blame on her or Washington....we don't know WHERE to place blame!

I think the blame may lie not with any single person but with too many layers of beauracracy. We definitely have some lessons to learn from this.

And wasn't.

I know I heard Blanco and Nagin on the news begging for help. Even if that's the only place they did, which is unlikely, we all knew they needed it. So, why didn't they get it?

It isn't because Bush couldn't legally send them. We've shot down that little piece of misinformation that was bandied about yesterday, haven't we? So why not? He didn't need anyone to rubber stamp anything.

Oh, small world! We get teletypes when Lady Bird is going to venture into town just for lunch, LOL! They're funny, really...they try to keep the info minimal, but if you know how to read between the lines, yes, literally told when/where she's going to lunch, and when to be on the lookout for them on their return home. It's funny, really....

It would be unusual for any member of the Secret Service assigned to the First Family in any Administration to discuss or gossip about them. They are trained professionals that have passed the highest level of Security to be assigned to the White House. The gossip speaks to the charactor of the Agent gossiping more so then to anyone else.

and transportation

I agree! A more user-friendly government, even for the Gov's and the Prez.

Where did that even come from????

I think it is really nice that Bush and Clinton are coming together in all of this. There should be more of this type of behavior rather than people just being totally looking for ways to bash Bush (or Clinton). I remember standing in the cold rain one day with a 2 year old in my arms to catch a glimpse of Clinton. When he came out he went into the crowd to shake hands and I told my daughter "Rachel, the President of the United States", He heard me and stopped and said "hello little child". Democrat or not I was proud and have and had respect for him, his accomplishments and his great office. I just don't understand why people are so rabid in their hatred. Is this necessary? I think Clinton rises above it and is gracious about the differences. Why can't other people be non-partisan? It is like they are unreasonable and blinded.
