GUILTY IA - Amy Mullis , 39, Earlville, killed with corn rake, 10 Nov 2018 *Arrest*

Are we POSITIVE that the injuries are from 6 tine entry points? How deep was the penetration? Was it the same on all 6 entry points?

No other experts willing to provide an alternate theory regarding the entry wounds?

After hearing Todd testify I feel bad for him, really don't think he did it. The explanations around the internet search history seemed plausible.

Reasonable doubt all day long in my opinion.

Really a sad story for all involved....except for the Frasher guy, he's got some bad karma coming his way I bet
Yeah, there are a lot of problems here. I don't know if he did it or not, but if I were on the jury, I'd have some serious questions.

  • #142
I agree! Oy...completely didn’t expect him to be so —-uhhh ...likable (for lack of a better word.

I predict a hung jury- only because of Todd taking the stand and being so...."likable".

It's hard to think that he may be lying because of that.

Although killers can be believable liars.

I wonder if they checked out if the the TV program- history channel- was playing at the time he said Amy/ he might have been watching for the search “how were cheating spouses killed in Aztec tribes”?

ETA: or even "Not Guilty"- by reason that the jury may not have enough evidence to convict (but not "innocent" in their eyes?). We shall see.

I agree with you.

Frankly, he did good IMO. Of course, haven't seen the cross exam yet.
Except when he said he was not upset about possible rumors about another affair. In his testimony he stated he and Amy talked about the rumors and decided it was no big deal. I find that hard to believe, especially since she had already had an affair. JMO

I also predict a hung jury at this point. JMO

Agree! Shoot...I’m pro-prosecution, and I just don’t think the State proved their case unfortunately. To me it seems that they concluded right away it was Todd who did it, and didn’t bother to do a thorough forensic investigation to back it up. I feel like there’s so much more they could have done. If I were on that jury - I don’t know if I could convict him even though I think it was probably him who killed Amy.

This Was Todd Mullis’s Best Attempt to Explain Away Shady Web Searches on His iPad
6:42 pm, September 19th, 2019
Murder defendant Todd Mullis testified Thursday in his trial over the death of his wife Amy Mullis. As may be expected, he denied ambushing her, but he also attempted to explain away the apparently incriminating web searches linked to his personal iPad and Google account. Other people, including his spouse, used it, and there were innocent explanations for them, according to this direct examination.

[...]
According to testimony, web searches linked to Todd Mullis’s iPad showed searched for “killing unfaithful women,” “crimes of passion,” and “what happens to cheaters in history.”

Mullis testified, however, that other people occasionally used the iPad. Amy had the password, and used it for bills and price quotes, he said. He acknowledged that it was possible she might have used it for personal items. Todd Mullis denied doing searches such as the one regarding cheating spouses. He claimed not to know who did. Under direct examination, he said they might have discussed that topic if there was a movie. Mullis also said he and his wife often watched the History Channel, and this would often result in web searches. Subject matter included Native Americans.

Another shady search came on November 6, 2018, several days before Amy Mullis’s death. This was the day she had a medical procedure. Their daughter had a medical question, so he thought it was easier if he just showed her on the laptop, he said.

All told, the defense is trying to show that the apparently incriminating searches have innocent explanations.

Mullis also denied searching for wedding dresses on July 22, 2018. There was also a January 21, 2018 search for discreetly doing DNA testing without consent, and how to do a DNA test without the father knowing. The defendant denied making such searches, and he said he never discussed it with his wife.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a hung jury, on the one hand you have 'who else in the world could have done it?' (which some jurors may reasonably side with) and on the other you have the prosecution that hasn't in any way put the rake in Todd's hands (which other jurors could agree with).

Then you have Todd himself, who on the stand not only is "likable", but he also sounds dirt honest and in no way wily or able to spin a believable yarn.

I wouldn't convict if I were on that jury, I just don't think the State proved their case.

The testimony from both of the investigators embarrassing. They need to find different jobs.

Truly. In all of the years I’ve followed cases, that was maybe the worst. My guess is 90% of our fellow WS’s could do a more thorough job.

(No offense to any locals following)

Something just popped-up in my mind when the prosecutor was asking Todd about the internet searches.

Did the son do the searches and he killed his mother???? He knew about his mother's infidelities and was mad, so he did the searches? Hmmm.

He didn't go to the get the drink. Instead he went to the shed and killed his mother because he was very angry at her?

I don't remember how they cleared the son of the murder.

Crazy thoughts...

Todd still sounds innocent to me. He's still very calm. Oh, I don't know.:(
