Found Deceased IA - David Le, 19, University of Iowa student, Iowa City, 14 Nov 2019

19-year-old David Le of Sioux City, Iowa was last seen Thursday in Iowa City. Authorities believe he may have jumped into the Iowa River on Thursday morning. Some of Le's personal property was found on the Iowa Avenue Bridge and authorities say he was reported absent from class.

The release stated that multiple agencies have been out searching the Iowa River near the bridge with the use of dragging, divers and cadaver dogs.

The search efforts have been suspended and Le is still missing, according to police.

Authorities say Le was last seen at 10:45 P.M. on November 13th, 2019 at McBride Hall on the University of Iowa Campus. The next morning a student found Le's backpack and turned it over to a UI employee who then turned it over the UI Police. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office was then told about the situation.

The sheriff’s office said that a note found in the backpack suggested Le may have wanted to end his life. While it could be a possibility, the sheriff’s office said there are no witnesses to corroborate it. They said that Le was entered as a missing person and the investigation is still ongoing.

In the time he's been missing, Le turned 20 years old on Saturday, Nov. 16.

Although the official search of the river was suspended Friday, crews were out again on Sunday for a couple of hours.

The sheriff's office reached out to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to search the waterway using sonar. Sonar uses sound waves to look for and map objects underwater.

The Johnson County Medical Examiner has identified the body found in the Iowa River on Tuesday as that of missing University of Iowa student David Le.
