I don't think you're being self-absorbed. All this time, all this speculation, it takes a toll on everyone. We all just want these poor little girls to be found and it's a terrible blow to the spirits when each day passes and nothing new happens. I had to take a few days off to spend with my family. I was having trouble sleeping at night, thinking about the girls and the safety of my own child.

I haven't slept well for weeks. Keeping hoping that somehow I will suddenly become pychic and my dreams will fill in the details. I haven't learned how to step away, but I need to because being on here day and night is starting to effect my business. There is only so much you can delegate to the staff while you are secretly in your office googling. It is both consuming and frustrating.

simp, I feel ya- personally I have been consumed (okay , obsessed) with Hailey Dunn, missing 12/2010-
you just have to learn to step away to real life , and stop and regroup emotionally and physically, often...and just know in your heart that your caring is important in ways you may never really know or understand. Peace to you.

Thank you! These are wise words I can apply to other aspects of my life.

Words to live by. :seeya:

Honestly its just too bad that more homeowners aren't using video surveilance systems that capture the street. In a case like this the possibility of seeing the automobile used would be very high.

I have suggested that to my husband, and he said we will put some in at some point, I will prob want one on the busy road and my home

I need to vent. Today I feel very gloomy and depressed. Like many others here, I have become consumed with these girls. I am exhausted and live 1,000 miles away. Today I just feel like walking away from all of this and moving on with my simple lifeline rural Alabama. I realize that sounds like I am self absorbed. Guess in a way we all are. It is just so frustrating. WHERE THE HELL ARE THESE GIRLS????? I can not imagine the unbearable pain these families are suffering. It makes me feel sick, just sick. What if they are never found??? How do you go on? I pray peace for them.

You and me both. How do these kids just disappear?? Lindsey Baum, Kyron, these girls...so many others. Just freaking gone without a trace supposedly. If this were my child I would be nuttier than I am now. How do the parents function?? Where are you girls?

I hate to think that's what the world is coming to ... I don't want to have to place a camera on my house in order to feel safe.

I have been following the case of missing Indiana student Lauren Spierer because she grew up not far from me. What has amazed and scared me the most is that they have found a dozen skeletal remains within 100 miles of her disappearance! Who are all of these people? How did they end up as skeletal remains in the woods? If there are that many there, how many other areas of the country are littered with pieces of beautiful people whose families lost them?

And I have to ask - do you think LE wasted too much time and was tunnel vision with the idea that they had drowned? I hope they were working on other avenues, but with what I hear about the trash---I wonder now.

I thought I read somewhere that the local news is the first and third friday of the month. Does that mean thats when the local newspaper comes out and is delivered?
Also I am wondering if Friday the 13th has any meaning to this perp.

I personally feel like when the bikes were spotted somewhere around 12:20 near the gate, that the abduction had already taken place. I think it happened very fast, I think no later than they got to the lake they were abducted (haven't decided imo if they were abducted on the lake side of the fence or the trail side).

I think it was someone (a pedophile) that knew the girls would likely be in the area at some point, based on the girls' frequency in the area, and the perp sat there and waited for them (I haven't decided if the perp was waiting on maiden lane, on the trail, on the lake, or at a house near the lake or lake ave, or if the girls went there to specifically meet up with this person).

I feel like although it could have likely been a stranger, it may have also even been someone they knew, or had seen before, but in my opinion it wasn't someone they trusted very much either way. The reason I think that is because to me the purse indicates a possible struggle, surprise attack, or being threatened into throwing the purse down, or maybe the perp threw it himself? I feel like if it were someone the girls trusted a lot that there wouldn't have had to be any kind of purse throwing down/dropping at the spot where it was found. I feel the perp could have just easily lured them voluntarily to a vehicle (or house) if they trusted the person a great deal (and it would have also been more beneficial to the perp to do it that way if they could), and then there wouldn't have had to be any altercation near the area where the purse was found, causing the purse to be left on the ground where it was.
I think there wasn't any screaming heard because the perp had a weapon and threatened them.

I apologize that this didn't really add anything new to the discussion or theories, but it's where I'm at right now.

Questions I'm wondering are:

1) When did the girls start riding their bikes on Lake Ave, was it a fairly recent development or was it happening even before summer break?
2) The carpenters said Elizabeth in particular is friendly with some of the people in the neighborhood and sometimes stops and talks to people. Which people?
3) Was the gate leading to the lake open or closed?
4) When Lyric was thought to be missing a few days prior to their abduction, where was she at and why was she late?

Ok, how about we explore this a different way - maybe a new perspective, explore new possibilities.

One thing that has kind of nagged at me is the differential between Grandma saying the girls NEVER went to the lake, and Mr. C saying he has seen Elizabeth quite often.

I live in a small Iowa town literally 30 mins from Evansdale with a population not much smaller. One thing that NEVER changes in a small town is how fast things/word get around and there are still people who will inevitably look out for kids who aren't their own.

Growing up I assure you that I could never have gotten away with riding my bike around town and my parents, Grandma, etc. NOT know about it if anyone felt we were too far from home or were somewhere we shouldn't be riding. I also believe that Heather and Drew would have known if Elizabeth was known for riding her bike "all over town" and would certainly be labeled as "unsupervised" in a small town. Kids who "run the town" don't have "upstanding citizens" as parents and it sounds to me like everyone in town thinks very highly of Heather and Drew. Keep in mind for you "city folk" lol this is very small town mentality...I know, I live it every day. You can't sneeze wrong without everyone in town knowing, AND having their own story about how it all went down.

I really believe that if these girls frequented the lake for any length of time people would be talking, confirming that "oh yes, we saw them there quite often" or would not be talking so highly of Heather and Drew.

So...getting to my point...if I didn't want my Grandma or mom and dad to know I had been riding around, I would NOT go a route where people who know me would report back to my parents.

I would be sneaky and go a route where no one would know me! I'm not going to go by anyone's house who is friends of my parents, grandparents, etc because they are gonna tell on me!

Small town people...you know what I'm talkin' about...people are nosy as hell, gossip and also have a very strong sense of community and watching other people's kids when they know they are up to no good. I know I'd maybe get away with about 2 hours of being "out of place" before someone got a call and narc'ed me out.

I firmly believe either this was a one time deal (going to the lake) OR there is something/someone between Mr C's house and the Collin's home that was the attention drawer...NOT the lake.

Does anyone know did TG identify that the bikes he swerved to miss were actually the girls?

TIA

SBM -

1) can't answer for sure
2) GREAT question
3) Been open for a long time before that, and was still open then, according to verified local Ollipop
4) She said she had been at a different park nearer her own house in Waterloo (nobody came across her there, that was just what she told her mom/whomever when she returned just as they were calling LE), and because she lost track of time (according to Lyric, according to articles I don't have links to)

(ETA: my own answers to question 4 are screaming "HINKY GROOMING SCENARIO/ TEST RUN FOR ABDUCTION" to me)

This crystalized in my mind earlier this morning. The FBI said weeks ago they have reason to believe the girls are alive and that that passage of time would not discourage them. Plus, the investigation has been silent for so long.

What if the information the FBI has is intelligence from an ongoing investigation into a pedo ring? And the reason the FBI, local LE and the family aren't saying anyting is because the Feds don't want to compromise their investigation?

A pedo ring makes some sense to me. Some perps move into a town and shack up somewhere. They spend a few weeks or months in the area, grooming a number of targets for potential abduction. And then when the oppurtunity presents itself, they grab one of their targets and run.

Thanks so much for your response, it's very helpful and answered some questions I had been wondering. The gate being open makes me feel like they likely went into the lake side of the fence. I didn't feel certain of this before.

They did have crews on the river for several days I don't know if they dragged it of were just looking for drowning victims.
